Everyone is raving about Alby Hub and its ease of use, yet I have not heard anyone mention the obstacle of having to open a channel of at least 1M sats, nor is it recommended with which LSP to open it or the possibility of said channel being closed with related loss of sats. There is something I am missing...
I think a lot of people are scared to say anything bad about Alby because they are one of the most important, active and helpful players in this space. So we all just have to pretend it's perfect until one day hopefully it will be perfect 😆
I’m sure Alby devs would appreciate any feedback geared at improving user experience. Unable to contribute as currently on their waiting list unless someone throws a spare invite code my way 😁 👍
I’ve certainly posted complimentary notes about Alby Hub — because I’ve had an overwhelmingly positive experience. Where I’ve had issues or been confused, I’ve relied on their support and gotten things solved, and hopefully they’ll take those questions as examples of where the UI or docs could be more clear or explanatory. Personally I have no attachment to one company over another, but @Alby is providing an excellent service and value, while simultaneously moving away from the custodial-wallet model to encourage users into self-custody and sovereignty. I think that’s a great contribution to “the mission” as most of us understand it.
Why 1M minimum @Alby ?
In my opinion a lower figure makes no sense at all to open a channel. Using it just for Nostr seems wasted to me, at that point just a custodial wallet and move sats every so often.
Have opened a 250ksat channel with a self hosted Alby. Is it different on their cloud offering?
You can do this on cloud as well. 250K min for megalith
You can open a 250K sat channel using Megalith as your LSP
I know, but why megalith and why only 250k sats?
The channel partners are the ones who set those limits - smaller channels can create routing issues and make it harder to find a route. (Large payments are tough to route anyway, but small channels make it hard to route smaller payments as well). I think Megalith is the one LSP who specializes in smaller channels, though
You don't lose the Sats if the channel is closed, you're going to pay the fee for the on chain closure tx, that's all.
