VPN brand campaign in NYC. If funds existed for such an effort, would it make sense to share nostr (and not a specific app)? What would you share, and why? #asknostr nostr:note1m8msphdszhrlfgam5a3mfslxcd0nhmv5u8n44hk72jqwskwa2ulq3pekm9
Honestly I don’t think it would help anyone. People who seek find, those who ask will receive. We can’t force people to be free
It's a tricky one 🤔 I viously clients should market (or not) however they wish. But you also don't want to give the impression that nostr is just a twitter clone. So then perhaps you advertise something like whynostr.com that explains, explains it is being built, that people can build on it. But then are you just wasting your money on a subway ad when that is more of a targeted ad campaign. Or maybe that actually does have a wide enough appeal or allure (even for non-devs). I mean mr robot, cyberpunk etc did have a mass appeal and is intriguing even for the non builders. And maybe coding has actually reached a big enough common practice for some sort of 'we are building an alternative, join us' type campaign. 🤔🤔🤔
it would probably make sense to share Primal or any other application that is available for both major platforms and the web.
Too early for the general public, IMHO. Perhaps target developers, tech enthusiasts, journalists, privacy advocates, etc. And in the meantime start making the Nostr brand visible.
🤙 Curious what you might think about a similar Bitcoin (non-company) campaign
I have a similar position: just target businesses and let them know that Bitcoin is a thing, a real tool, besides all the speculation/financial noise. Businesses are happy to optimize costs related to payments gateways; they are also always interested in searching for new niches to promote their offers, and I suppose bitcoiners will be seen as an interesting target in the next bull run. Motivated business will create bitcoin customers. In the meantime curious casual people will be triggered and maybe will fall down the rabbit hole.
@vrod who should Damus target, and why
I know a lot of people disagree with this. But personally I think #nostr needs a logo or icon. I know that could be considered a centralization factor. And the argument is the web doesn’t have an icon. But #Bitcoin does. And it makes it recognizable. Super annoying to not be able to have an icon on my website and have it link to #nostr content.
