Hi @Brisket , notes about the account pricing: - These are annual plans. 69000sats is = $4 a month, not a lot even at ATHighs. 1 month ago it would have been $2.50. Regardless, we should not be pricing in dollars, 1sat = 1sat. - Since your initial plan a year ago, Fishcake has joined and rebuilt the entire site with a new account dashboard look and feel, additional features (CDN, backup, View All viewer, better uploader, etc). It is a MUCH better experience not to mention the 24/7 support. - Each of us put hours into nostr.build a day reviewing content, replying to issues, updating the site, etc. We maybe make a few hundred profit a month which we leave in the node for liquidity and emergency. Fishcake and I make no money from nostr.build. - And of course, we always have a 100% free service and will keep any media uploaded for a year if you decide not to renew!
Thanks for the detailed explanation & rationale behind the pricing. I'm a little concerned that you might be pushing people towards the free service. This is not good for anyone. People should pay for their services & Nostr build should be sustainable. I'm not a heavy uploader & could easily get away with 2GB per year. I think most users fit into this category & would find it hard to justify moving to a paid sub. I'm not complaining, just providing some feedback. I understand that this is difficult & has real world costs. I also have no issues with the team turning a profit for their work.
Great feedback, thank you. We have barely been breaking even for the last year, and now with the price of bitcoin, renewals and Fishcake added features, we were hoping to make a little extra for, savings, further development, additional 3rd party services, emergency, etc. We will discuss a cheaper account option, but given the work put into the service Ms by now, it is hard to find something that fits. We will continue to monitor. Reminder you can wait to renew until a better time in the next year while we keep your media saved. Also, we always offer a refund if not satisfied.
Yeah - I had a quick look through my feed. From the image URLs most seem to be using the free version. I can imagine how hard it is to even break even right now. Ideally everyone would share the burden, but new Nostr users aren't going to see the value at first. I do think a lower price point would help with increasing the number of subs. I wonder if an automatic free trial also might be worth exploring? After the trial, the npub would have to use one of the less ideal image hosting services.
