 An Orange Pill 🧡 Story:

Ignoring war or a dismal start to Uptober, I have an interesting tale to tell.

My wife @mbhardcastle had coffee at a neighbours today. The neighbour is aware I’m in to Bitcoin so asked my wife some questions about it. Luckily my wife is extremely knowledgable and a very eloquent speaker about Bitcoin having listened to me every night go on about it for nearly 4 years.

The neighbour asked:

How can somebody make up a currency and just make money out of thin air. Not even the government can do that.

My wife started to explain that is exactly what governments do, but the neighbour interrupted her to say, “But we have the gold standard?”

Luckily my wife is well versed in history and Bitcoin. The conversation went well.

However, it blew the neighbours mind and she asked my wife to stop talking because it was too much for her to absorb, while acknowledging that everything was wife was saying was indeed correct.

She remembered the government printing money during the pandemic and also in 2008 after some prompting.

The pill has been taken, let's see how long before she is fully awake.
 True story dat
The vaunted OPS. Did the same with a soccer buddy. I’d been reading Parker’s book, and there’s a paragraph in there that really seals it. It begs the question: Why must I put assets at risk in a speculative market to save for retirement? If the victim is capable of answering that question, the hook is set - fish on!
I'm always shocked when I hear there are sill people who think we're on a gold standard. Then, I remember being there myself once. It really only takes one quick look at the FEDs balance sheet (even when I first did more than 20 years ago) to realize how incompatible a gold standard would be.
PS. Any idea why I can't seem to send you a zap? The zap button on the note is disabled, and zapping your profile just didn't work.
If you can zap mike@mikehardcastle.com then it's probably a client issue. If you can't then it's most likely an Albyhub issue.

Can you try the above LN address?

I am generally receiving Zaps atm.

Thanks
Hmmm. I was unable to zap mike@mikehardcastle.com, but looks like mhardcastle@getalby.com worked fine. (I hope that's you 😉).

I'm using NWC with Cashu.me - which I believe is a very experimental wallet - so maybe that has something to do with it... I've been zapping plenty with it though for weeks now; and, this is the first issue I've run into... I've even been zapping from different clients. So, who knows? 🤷
I've had one other person say they can't zap me, but I didn't go into config details with them.

I've been running with Albyhub and my own domain for a while and only had two reported issues and I send / receive zaps a lot.

If you read my article I published on habla.news the json file that sits on my website, that effectively forwards the payment to mhardcastle@getalby.com is a little different to most json files (like Wallet of Satoshi), so maybe Alby have introduced some non backward compatible functions within their config.

Thanks for letting me know about this and thanks for the zap.
You forget how far you've come until you start talking to people yet to start the journey.
I don't have a direct suggestion, but some observations from personal experience.

Everything else within society is based on trust, and doesn't require responsibility. Your bank will fix any transaction errors or give you access if you've lost your password. The government will replace your ID if you loose it etc...

Bitcoin IS different and therefore not for everyone.

Also, when discussing with normie family members about the growing threat of WW3, I expected them to deny this and think I was crazy to be planning eventualities. Quite the contrary, they accepted the very likely probability of WW3, they just assumed that all would be OK and that it is somebody else's problem and there's nothing they can do about it.

For most people, unless the problem, affects them directly and immediately they assume that somebody else will fix it and they don't need to get involved. This is why Bitcoin has had more success in third world countries. There is no perceived problem that needs fixing, despite the understanding of inflation and declining lifestyle.

Also, this is an interesting event that happened recently:
