 this is one of the books i wish i had read a translation instead of the original. It seems translators did a great work improving both style and correcting grammar and spelling errors. The original in portuguese was almost unreadable when i first read it 30 years ago or so. 

 But is the book really any good?

I've seen a lot of people criticizing his books, although I don't know why...

 One of the best books I have ever read, really powerful. I frequently re-listen to it. 

 A great torture method is to get someone to finish reading this book. It’s unbearable (and yes, I somehow finished it because I’m a masochist). Just my 2 sats.

 Alchemy is great.  It essentially is trasforming from a lower state to a higher state.  Bitcoin can be considered an example, Satoshi transfomred inert hard drives into precious numbers, and digital gold, via proof-of-work.  Jung and Newton were also great alchemists.

I'm studying one of the great unsolved alchemical texts, which says something similar, and also about language, mathematics and the geometry of conic sections:

 I have read it when I was small. It is one of the thinnest books of all time but has good very good insights. The plot countries are Spain, Morocco, Sahara Dessert and Egypt’s Giza area if I remember correctly. The animals mentioned are sheep, falcon, and camels. The gist of book is when life gives you lemons, make lemonades, don’t throw them away. Don’t fear to dream big and have faith in miracles. 

 Recommended, the best brazilian writer ever.

 i've never read the alchemist, but maktub by paulo coelho is an excellent book 

 maktub in arabic means 'it is written' but it is mostly used in the sense of 'destiny' when something is meant to happen. it means that everything is already written.

 A wonderful read, a fountain of wisdom 

 This is my favorite fictional story of all time. Read it one morning in 3 hours and did not move til it was done.
