The drop in number of #Bitcoin nodes is not fun.
Now, I don’t truly understand how these numbers are even estimated, so it could be an issue with that. Or maybe a new update came out that makes it even harder to track.
But if it’s actually nodes turning off, we need to put a spotlight on the issue to encourage people to spin up more nodes.
My optimistic theory which I shared last week is that those are nodes reaching storage limits, and hopefully some will upgrade their set ups soon.
With that said, it would be great if Bitcoiners run more nodes if they can.
I run 2 but could run more
I run two as well! 🤙🤙
I have a 3rd not set up, you got me looking for time now.
what is convincing you that there is a drop in nodes and that its a problem?
A significant number of those nodes were from ordinals participant earlier on this year.
There's no reason to be concerned about this tbh. As long as the option of running a node remains accessible then that's all that matters.
Most users have little reasons to run a node and that's okay.
I hope you are correct. 👍
I want to get one set up I just ordered a 2 gig hard drive. Anyone have a experience or a good source for set up?
i recommend raspibolt/minibolt to force use of and learning command line
Such a great suggestion thanks again 😎
Would there be any benefit of getting rasp 5 instead of 4?
If you plan on building a lightning node on top of the bitcoin node. Don’t go with a raspberry pi at all.
Build a mini PC. Get a refurbished one for sub $100.
I’m beginning to understand more as I go I didn’t realize how small the hard drive would be but now I see what you mean with building a mini computer - sorry for the delay. This is getting exciting though as I get closer. When looking into mini pc, would you rec minimum specs apart from 2t ssd (eg ram, ect)
Honestly. If a node can run on Raspberry pi. Any PC would do.
The main benefit is you’ll get a waaay better cpu, better SSD (instead of an external SSD limited by the speed of a USB port) and the ability to expand ram if needed.
I went with an i5, 2Tb nvme, and 8gb of ram. Anything above that is just more headroom. Though I don’t necessarily think it’s needed.
Even a PentiumSilver is up for the task. I'm running core+electrs+lnd on a N6000 with 8GB. Draws close to no power at all and works like a charm.
Just plugged back in🫡
Thank you for your service 🫡
I was running a pruned node, but am working on converting it to a full node. Just taking a while cause it's on an HDD. Bought an SSD to replace it, so it should be up and running in its full glory on Monday.
Torifing the nodes maybe?
What does Torifing mean ?
The TOR nodes are not include in this data
Maybe some % of people is closing clearnet nodes and opening TOR nodes
No it is. Ip4, ip6, and .onion are included. At least that’s what the graph shows.
There is no incentive for many people to run nodes though. It requires a lot of power and disk space to do it right
True. This is for autistic maxis only.
We're tracking the public nodes at btcframe.com, and it appears that the number of tor nodes is decreasing for an unknown reason. We believe that they are still active but somehow isn't recognized as reachable.
