Maybe engagement should be measured by how much the OP engages with the replies 🤔
Now that would be an interesting metric. Though OP shouldn’t feel like they are obligated to engage if their replies are off the deep end.
I don't know... I mean, maybe to some degree it could work but it could also lead to some twisted incentives & strange stuff trending when attention seekers start stirring controversy intentionally for the sake of trending... or when someone decides to battle trolls. 😂
Or they could create stooge bots to reply to.
Yeah, that too.
Doeant IG have all this figured out? Cant we just send in an undercover from nostr 👀😂
There must be an opensats budget for this
I nominate you 😂🤣
I would totally love to do that omg 🤣
Well this was my one idea. Beyond this, I will never speak of it again lmao. Back to regularly scheduled here is my simple, happy life posts 🫡😂
No! I mean... those too... but ideas need to be explored! It's just what came to my mind & my opinion/insight is just one of many around here
Oh, I didnt take your commemt any negative way. I truly just dont personally care about all the metrics...they dont affect my day to day life. But I thought Laeserin had a point about how they affect incoming npubs. So I had a thought and posted it, but I prefer to keep my attention elsewhere. I will def post if I have another thought on the matter but I prob wont 😂
I mostly agree with @Brisket but the engagement/ trend thing does affect newcomers so for that reason I care
It's tricky. The chances of someone with a larger presence responding to or liking a reply is already exponentially higher than any other social & likely temporary. Helping new, active users (as in noters, not lurkers) to understand that community building means participation is the real hurdle, or at least that's how I see it.
Makes sense 🫂💜 maybe there should be a community builder list for npubs who we know will interact w and help newcomers
Something like that would be cool. I think @ManiMe 's project will be offering something similar. Trending, highlights, etc definitely have their place as far as joining & retention go. Prepopulated follow lists might not be the best longterm idea but it fixed the empty feed issue for the time, so maybe that will graduate into a suggestion list eventually. Idk... my ability to comprehend far outstrips my ability to do so I'm basically useless 😂
You and me both😂 But we can cheer them on and say what they are working on is so cool!
You both, and me too 😂🤛
Hells yeah🤜 We are now known as The Unoffendables and unite our powers! Lol
There are no lines we can’t cross!
It's not that I'm edgy, I'm just terrible at understanding boundaries 😂🤣
😂🤣😂 what is a boundary? 🫨
I’m never bothered, so I just think everyone else shouldn’t be either 🤷♂️
You're so coool 😂🫂
Wife disagrees. She says I’m just oblivious.
Your wife is the coolest 😎😇
She is…..one day she’ll wake up 😜
Just keep having adorable babies and dancing with them to sweet songs while you look at her
You remembered the secret sauce!
*phew* 🫂 😂
I am so unlikely to be offended so do not worry 😂🫂
I, too, am unoffendable... that totally undoes yesterday's undoing 😂🤙
You may think your thoughts you thunk. Vetting them in "public" is brave and generally a good thing. I like your regular notes, but, I also like out of the ordinary things that real people care to show with others. So, don't hold back, if you don't want to.
We already count replies.
This would add counting replies to replies.
I think we were referring to how those numbers are weighed in trending feeds. Maybe I was mistaken.
Are we going to pretend like a bit of controversy isn't fun? 😂 The Internet actually has too little controversy and too many personal attacks, in my opinion, so everyone watches morbid news videos and hardcore porn, to get their hindbrain excitement fix, instead of watching a debate on the ethics of aloof elitism or the pros and cons of various hard currencies. Most new human knowledge is gained to win the upper hand in a debate or solve some problem people told you couldn't be solved. Lack of controversy causes our brains to atrophy and stymies innovation. I'm here for the intellectual flight club that is going to delay the onset of dementia.
Not joking about dementia. I'm in that age where the people who are intellectually lazy have brains that slowly begin to rot, if they don't use them hard enough. I can literally see it happening, on their faces, as they lose expressive mimic. *shudder*
Or maybe we shouldn't care about engagement?
I personally dont beyond how I show up...I want to develop frens here and promote community on nostr. Life is better this way. But after all the notes today, I had a thought so I posted it.
Yeah I've never felt like you're into that. I personally really detest engagement posts. It's probably because they trigger me into engaging with them. 😆 I know there'll be clients that employ these types of feeds, but I really dislike the incentives that they create.
I’m not sure if you’d consider them engagement posts, but I really enjoy notes that spark a wave of discussion. No zaps and a few likes but people were posting really interesting replies to this one recently: nostr:note1dz8p6tr3uwsefpe43phpavdj9jqkm050z4up6nd728zv3desgqnqlpk6mj
Yeah discussion is different. Exchanging ideas & opinions can be both enjoyable & valuable. Some posts that get a lot of engagement were just contraversial but authentic takes/questions. You can never truly know the intent behind a post. Some posters just feel like they're desperate for attention & I'm not here to make people feel popular.
I was engaged once. 🤷🏼♂️
Quantum even.
