if only a screen was bigger
They communicate via Bluetooth to an app on your phone so the screen size doesn’t matter too much but there are other device options with a bigger screen such as this Lilygo T-Deck which I am about to try. nostr:note1xf66ykdxl7d7ey5yh8437z0q6shgy749c6n6g6ng0mkvmu5x0vgsed0jr0
☀️Good Morning my Beautiful Sunshine - 3 hours & 45 minutes to go!!☀️🌬️🌹🍃✨💋🦁🫂❤️🔥
Now what's the reason this kills the providers tho?
This kills providers because the transition is done end-to-end via radio signals. And it can be used mainly for risk situations in general.
I've been using Meshtastic for a few months. Line of sight is critical to it's useage so hills, buildings can block transmissions easily.
With more users and in a mesh network, perhaps these obstacles can be overcome.
maybe for a hiking trip or but they are very limited
Line of sight is very important with it so hills will hamper/block transmissions.
I had a NABER license back in the day and worked for batwings 25 years, when I watched the vid it looked neat and has its uses but its replacing cell phones.
Is that from experience?
Getting up higher in the city definitely got my device to reach more nodes. Here is an article from the Meshtastic site on increasing the range which discusses line of sight & how elevation is important to increase the range https://meshabout.com/increase-meshtastic-node-range-maximum-distance/
Good to know when setting up nodes. Put em high. Also makes them harder to mess with.
I also bought a replacement antenna for my Heltec to help reach nodes better than the stock antenna. Can't remember the cost but somewhere between $10-$20 on Digikey. Apparently antennas on Amazon or Aliexpress are not always what they claim to be so best to purchase from a reputable outlet specializing in electronics etc
Meshtastic is such an awesome protocol, I have a dream of putting a buch around my city
Consider this device from Garmin: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/765374
Obviously not going to replace phones yet, but great to see people working on this, along with things like SimpleX, briar, and digital shortwave One thing I haven't seen much of yet is open source local positioning systems, using one's own radio towers or a mesh of cell phones/radios Another possibility is a good star map, paired with a clock and image recognition, it would give a decent global positioning on clear nights

Would be nice, but some banks require an online mobile or your bank account is suspended. During covid my wife's phone died and we couldn't get a new one due to most severe lockdowns. We rang the bank wtf and they simply told her the account will be re-activated one her phone number is reachable again and at least for 48h. How frequently you check that? Can I replace the sim in my phone? They said if you go offline we suspend your account too. Cash was not accepted that time and it is hardly since then.
nice. ESP32, same chip as ESPFLIX, https://github.com/rossumur/espflix, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPL8Pj6ATrg ,
Network of these, plugged to home servers like @umbrel could make up a new internet!
I want mesh networks since the first time I read about it. I'm sure at one point we'll be able to do it with our smartphones.
I need this to send important Encrypted GM 💜🤙 Posts nostr:nevent1qqs9xgy2x8gkr5kwhazq6hx89ep9kxr3apm65k8ljygw3q7wgtx3lycprpmhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68yct5dyhxxmmdqgsgydql3q4ka27d9wnlrmus4tvkrnc8ftc4h8h5fgyln54gl0a7dgsrqsqqqqqpqn33ed
This is fuckin cool. nostr:note12vsg5vw3v8fva06yp4wvwtjztvv8r6rh4fv0lygsazpuuskdr7fsxvdkgn
Cool but flawed i think… initially i thought the relay/repeater mode was always ON along with encrypted private message etc. looking at the docs it looks like its one or the other , not both at the same time. Mesh networks, for me, are a great value prop for relays and repeaters. Walkie talkies should work fine. Idk thoughts?
This is my choice of communications worldwide. With a subscription of just $49.95 a month I get unlimited messaging everywhere on the globe. Paired with the Garmin explore application you get mapping as well. You can’t beat this. More folks should consider using this device. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/765374
That's still proprietary and you can be locked out of your account pretty easily. I have a similar device for when I hike solo. But it's not something I'd rely on for primary coms.
Very cool, but, It’s a shitcoin
What do you rely on for primary comms, if I may ask?
Anything FOSS and encrypted, really. Signal, simplex, matrix, nostr, etc. All of them have issues, but, a variety at hand is useful and provides some redundancy.
Thank you 😊 and GM 🌞
You're welcome. And thank you. ☺️ There is no perfect communication platform. Every one of those I listed has some advantages over the others. There are tons more (XMPP and session cons to mind at the moment) that also have their uses. I don't go all in on one thing or another, favoring a diverse approach that remains flexible.
No shit there I was…I caught this one yesterday and thought is pretty innovative way to reuse old phones without service. Flat Miami is one thing though. Let’s see how it works in Texas Hill Country
I'm always so so early I can prob predict what everyone will be gravitating to next in ~6 months nostr:nevent1qqs9xgy2x8gkr5kwhazq6hx89ep9kxr3apm65k8ljygw3q7wgtx3lycpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejsygyzxs0cs2mw40xjhfl3a7g24ktpeur54u2mnm6y5z0e6250h7lx5gpsgqqqqqqst6j0y4
This is so weird. Literally just finished watching a small video about these then jumped on to nostr and BOOM 💥
Now CIA spyware just dropped!
Lora is cool but why don't people talk about deploying more open source 4 and 5G? https://medium.com/@googler_ram/100-opensource-5g-projects-that-you-can-get-your-hands-dirty-with-127a50967692

@BeLike3Bitcoin see. Even Jack believes.
We still expect to see #Bitcoin to have a parabolic move to top out at $300K+ this cycle, Until then just keep stacking, and build your sats with passive arbitrage pattern to 100x your sats. If you haven't join the rebelcapitalist vip group already, I would highly recommend it for passive accumulation. https://m.primal.net/HvQx.png Be timeless and true to thyself Life involves effort and growth. You won't grow by watching a situation comedy, though you can grow by reading a book. I hope we aren't becoming a nation of watchers, because what made us great is that we've always been a nation of doers.
“I’ve always found something to be very true, which is most people don’t get those experiences because they never ask.” Jobs continued, “I’ve never found anybody that didn’t want to help me if I asked them for help.” Not true for some greedy people in da world- selfish goat 🐐
