 Yes. I tend to reply more than post directly, even if it is a note I'd like my followers to see. Quote notes feels more like monologue than dialogue. 

 I don't know the technical details but the way you describe this sounds like it fits a pattern of rube goldberg workaround patch.  IOW Rethink the design?  I can barely wrap my head around where and why replies or quote reposts do what to whom, so perhaps end user needs a more simplified elegance? 

 do you have a suggestion on how to do that? think the quote repost to reply is the real hack, which is why I'm trying to think of a solution to that. 

  I see it now I think. Better the note poster/ replier inform clients as to the context they prefer or find relevant to be displayed alongside.  I think I like your solution.  Potential challenge of terminology and education, not insurmountable  

 Find ways to surface high signal replies/conversations instead. 

With this you'll just pollute timelines and reader-choice even more.
