I use these $8 digital timers to cycle the oil-filled heater in my van and on my hydroponic lights at home. The problem is that the mechanical relays fail after a couple of months. So, I’m adding a solid state relay. Digital timers have more setting options, are quieter, and have less parasitic draw. But they all come with crap relays. https://image.nostr.build/217c1fa1700bb30d96e67dace2b4f8a6812cd0c7719a0cec8200f3c27ba6d0bc.jpg
We also made a massive transfer of manufacturing technology starting in early 90s and accelerating in the 2000s. The auto industry started it. The best analogy I can think of is that we were Starfleet and we violated the Prime Directive on a backward world. Every American should go to Shanghai and see how very far behind the US now is. New York looks like the third world shithole it is, by comparison.
