💛 “The Redux: If Not Now, White Folks, When?”
I’m not a fan of the term “ally” as it has a performative ring. It implies doing as opposed to being. But I’ve come to accept the word as a metonym for a larger concept: good people. Better people.

@be7434a2 Good to hear that thing are well in your corner of the world. Living life in the fast lane here. Finally catching a breather, I believe. Fall/autumn is teasing its welcome arrival. How’s that other project/server thing you were working on? I forget the exact name.
💛 “With Allyship, It’s Best if You Do You”
One question people ask when they decide to advocate for racial equity and inclusion is: Where do I start? People assume they must conceal their mild-mannered Clark Kent or Diana Prince persona and become the Superman or Wonder Woman of allyship.
Nothing could be further from the truth.

@3967703f Is it my imagination or just because it’s Saturday that it feels like a lot of the Black voices I’m used to seeing are kinda absent? Maybe they’ve had family demands of their time.
@3967703f OH, MY GOODNESS. That’s terrible. I can’t imagine the stress for everyone. So glad he’s doing better. Mom’s good. Very good, thanks. She didn’t get COVID while I had it, so that’s a very good thing. Am out of an all-consuming project, so feeling more human.
@46cd5609 Gotcha.
So wearing a STILL a good idea in those tight, crowded spaces, eh?
Finally surrendered my “last man standing” card and contracted COVID a month ago. Much better now.
@3967703f 😂😂😂
Let me tell you ... I have never been a lightweight drinker, but five years ago my resistance to alcohol dropped precipitously. My limit is TWO adult beverages. Anything after that, I can’t vouch for may or did happen.
💛 “10 Steps to Being an Ally to Marginalized Groups”
Being an ally shouldn’t be a badge someone wears, like liberal street cred. It’s fundamentally a way of seeing the world in which you understand that every person is deserving of the same human rights and a chance to succeed in life.

@3967703f NO ONE does. We have a family friend who is 103, and her longevity is a testament to the caregiving and attention to her needs primarily by one of her four daughters. And it’s fallen to her due to proximity. On the one hand, yes it’s an honor and the right thing to do. On the other, it can be all-consuming. (unintentional preaching to the choir)
@46cd5609
Thanks so much, I appreciate it. Really. Living highly at-risk family members really had me worried. But all’s well and no one else got it.
Really do appreciate your updates. Thank you!
