 The penalty for shutting the government down should be 1 month without salary for each day it's closed.
 @3967703f Watch how quickly it would re-open in just that case!
 @3967703f With ideas like that, if you ran for anything in my area, you'd get my vote 100%!
 @3967703f I don't know how you government can even be shut down that way. Here if the budget doesn't get passed the house and senate are reelected, and all the federal government stuff just continues on in caretaker handling the basics
 @3967703f "I got hired to work at a business, but I don't like some of the services the business is designed to deliver, and there is a bunch of stuff we do that I think we pay too much for, so I'm going to close and lock the doors until the other employees do what I want (which is basically for them to stop working.)"

At what point do the owners of said business interrupt with "you're fired"?
 @3967703f The actual government pay they get is only a part of the pay they get. If it were otherwise we wouldn’t be in this situation.
 @3967703f sadly they're all rich enough to not care.

Shutting down govt funding should cause direct debits from their personal bank accts to make up the shortfall
 @3967703f I saw a few minutes of an interview in which a GOP who was pro shutdown was asked about military employees not getting paid. The GOP dude bought up the fact that many live paycheque to paycheque, but completely dismissed hardship no pay would cause. "Oh well, they'll get back pay when we open again." When asked if he would be paid, he smirked, said yes, that's the way the constitution was written, not his fault. Vile, disgusting, nauseating.
 @3967703f
I'd settle for a recall election of every member of Congress every time a government shutdown occurs.
 @3967703f
They should just extend the current budget, until they come to a new agreement. Unfortunately our union & company did that to us in 2020 because of covid. We are having a strike vote on Friday.
 @3967703f there shouldn't be a mechanism where government can be shut down in the first place.

I cannot think of any other country in the world that has this ridiculous tomfoolery.
 @3967703f I like that idea a lot. A whole lot. But it’d take an act of God to bring that one to fruition.
