@9ac07000@73178e67 Yes.. find this math really challenging in the OR. Really have to slow down and pencil it out. Don’t often have the luxury of someone to check in a rural OR.
@46cd5609@ee534b4c Sorry if I’m stating the obvious but is your doctor updating your med-list in real time with you? As a locum I find myself doing this a fair bit, especially legacy medications not discontinued.
Another regular system error my wife (pharmacist) and I see is not updating the dose.
Pharmacy faxes: “did you mean to go back to old dose”
Doc: scribbles “no” and faxes back
FF several months: Rx renewed again at old dose because chart not updated.
As GOP views collide with science, doctors are in the crosshairs https://www.statnews.com/2023/10/03/doctors-in-crosshairs-conservatives-gop/
“Scores of practicing physicians and the national groups that represent them are increasingly at the center of a widening cleave between conservative America and science writ large. The gap has doctors young and old questioning how to navigate political landmines and limits in their communities — or whether they should at all.” Via @c3311ce4
“Patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (#COVID19) present increased risk for ischemic cardiovascular complications up to 1 year after infection.
Here we report that #SARSCoV2 viral RNA is detectable and replicates in #CoronaryLesions taken at autopsy from severe COVID-19 cases. SARS-CoV-2 targeted plaque macrophages and exhibited a stronger tropism for arterial lesions” https://mstdn.social/@erictopol/111143529304525172
#COVID19 the third-leading cause of death in #Australia in 2022, data shows - ABC News https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-09-27/covid-in-abs-leading-causes-of-death-data-heart-disease-/102906350 “COVID-19 entered the top five in 2022, with most deaths occurring during the #Omicron wave
It's the first time an InfectiousDisease has been a leading cause of death in more than 50 years
The virus was responsible for more than one in 20 deaths in 2022, making it the third-leading cause of death behind coronary heart disease and dementia.”
@d591b4ac@db63657e “the masses who listen not to logical evidence based argumentation but rather to emotionally driven mass marketing.”
Unfortunately what they are listening to is the failure of leaders to lead with a clear science based message “Unfortunately, there were many barriers in implementing something as simple as portable HEPA filtration units…some were that high-level guidance was missing (“there’s no policy for that” or “it’s not in my portfolio”)”
HEPA filtration reduces transmission of SARS-CoV-2 and prevents nosocomial infection: A call to action | #BCMJ #BritishColumbiaMedicalJournal https://bcmj.org/premise/hepa-filtration-reduces-transmission-sars-cov-2-and-prevents-nosocomial-infection-call “All 11 studies showed that portable #HEPA purifiers were able to significantly reduce airborne #SARSCoV2 surrogate particles and augmented other decontamination strategies such as ventilation. Seven of the studies were performed in settings with minimal or no additional ventilation.” Via @db63657e

@46cd5609 I can only think of 799,999 ways. Which did I miss? 🙃
But yes, ideally the message this month should be:
“Get your vaccine
Decrease your risk of [insert condition here], taking the infection home to [insert significant other here] and missing a chunk of school.
But still wear your mask indoors and stay home if sick”
“The study, published in the journal PLOS Pathogens, found net #ViralLoads among all community members declined after university #VaccineRequirements went into effect. Masking, isolation and antibodies from getting sick weren't enough to decrease infection rates.
"Before the vaccine was required, the virus was becoming more concentrated in saliva and easier to spread to #VulnerablePopulations” https://noc.social/@CaulfieldTim/111026217528781745
“#BC.’s hot, dry #summer could be setting the province up for a catastrophic #flooding event similar to the one that occurred during the #AtmosphericRivers in November 2021.
The comments came during an update on current wildfire and drought conditions. Bowinn Ma, minister of emergency management and climate readiness, said weather in the weeks and months ahead will determine the potential for fall #flooding and whether drought conditions continue into next year.” https://mastodon.roitsystems.ca/@bcinfo/111025697811564145
😳 “The #UnitedStates is a global leader
in avoidable #amputations.”
“A toe, foot or leg is cut off by a doctor about 150,000 times a year in America, making the United States a world leader of these amputations.”
