Question for other users:
1) What is the significance of the lock icon next to each node in the node list? (I notice that some are yellow/unlocked, and others are green/locked.)
My clients seemed to be set to green/locked by default, while most others are yellow/unlocked.
How do I change that setting, and why might I want to?
2) Also, if I broadcast a message in the default primary "Channel 0", who can see it? Is it a public channel for any clients in hop range? What is the significance of setting that channel's encryption setting to "empty" instead of "default"?

Buy the Heltec V3s; they are $25 or so a pop, which is a pretty cheap entry point. Get a two pack from Amazon that includes a little plastic case and an antenna; just adds a little durability when you're playing around with them.
I needed to dig up a *data-capable* USB-C cable to connect the devices to my computer to update the software (firmware) before using them.
You'll likely need to follow directions such as the ones at Meshtastic's website. Some things were l not self-explanatory to me.
Part of the fun is that it's a little technical, so if you like figuring stuff out, you'll enjoy it.
There's something delightful about transmitting your first message and seeing it pop up on the other device while knowing it's on your own self-created mesh network.
Is also fun to see what nodes/coverage pop up near by. Depending on your context, it may be just you, or 20 others.
Was helpful for me to just ChatGPT for specific instructions. There will be no instructions with the product; so either you read Meshtastic website's helpful walkthroughs, or just ask ChatGPT specific questions about settings and terms when you encounter them.
What are the chances that #Bitcoin would be discovered and mature at just the right time to offer sanctuary from the imminent fiat collapse?
It could have happened some other way. Or not at all. But here we are, with a life raft that protects those most interested in honesty and integrity.

I'm torn between:
A) starting a #Bitcoin meetup and publicly advocating for BTC in my community and social circles; or
B) constantly advancing my opsec to the point that I become outwardly removed from and apparently irrelevant to it all.

While #Bitcoin cannot exceed its 21million supply cap, it can get scarcer...and will...as BTC is lost, forgotten or intentionally burned over time.

These observations have a direct impact on a guy's decision about whether to save or not.
If holding #Bitcoin: the incentive to save increases because the value increases, leading to long-term / low-time preference thinking, short-term self-control, and greater security for when troubles come.
If holding $USD, I'd want to not save long term, I'd spend sooner, would want to attempt investment gains
in some non-money good, asset or enterprise.
If a guy takes imagines each of these two paths, and scales them across a society and through time, the results are two drastically different worlds.
I want to be in the #Bitcoin world.
Before the #Bitcoin rabbit hole, I had never known that banks could loan out money that they did not have (or even further: money that did not previously exist)
This has happened in my life. My hierarchy of value has been clarified.
So many things I decided not to buy because I'd rather have the equivalent sats.
