Tbfthe YouTube algo does throw me a lot of strange stuff with barely any views and curious music curation channels with not many views but are very good.
Not to sound critical but it sort of does read as a spam-ish post.
It may have worked better as a more normal post and less of an advert. Like 'hello we are organising a (free?) talk about decentralised social media protocols at penn state...blah blah'.
A more conversational post or something.
Who knows maybe that would also be deleted lol.
But generally I think a lot of Nostr content on other platforms can come across as too spammy. (I think you have to imagine for eg if farcaster made that post, how would you read it? And put yourself in that skeptical headspace, cos that is often how it comes across).
I quite like the recent Reason video as a go-to for sharing. It's quite informative and doesn't come across as too much of a hard sell lol
Unfortunately that is a pretty standard tone and how a lot of advertising sounds nowadays lol. Just think of eg innocent smoothies or on the pack of oat milk.
You know what I think would be interesting and useful. A weekly/monthly substack summarising nostr projects development news.
I suspect I may actually just stop using nostr if this existed tho lol. (Does this sort of thing actually exist already?? #asknostr ).
I think people outside of here would be interested. Perhaps people who aren't into using nostr-as-microblogging (for whatever reasons they have) but are interested in what is being built here.
Obviously it could also be on twitter and elsewhere.
Do you use an RSS reader?
I've added loads of RSS feeds via Atomstr and Nostr is actually works pretty well with RSS. I've sorted a few into subcategories (as nostr lists)
I have found nostr RSS can miss a few posts here and there but I think that may happen on dedicated RSS readers too. Not sure. Sort of good enough for me tho
I'm mostly with you. I think the gaming example is a bit dubious. Probably the best game released in ages, amongst a whole garbage heap of both paid and free to play, is a paid game - Elden Ring. Free to play is mostly trash, disposable and will have not much of a fond legacy. There are some exceptions obviously.
Just a little aside. I appreciate the argument tho, I'm just not all that onboard with that analogy.
Yes, I totally agree. I think substack is a great example. There's also this curious project by one of the Kickstarter co-founders. Metalabel.com
He seems like an interesting guy, and this is well worth a listen, a lot of what he says would be onboard with what can be built on nostr.

I think it's your connection to Truth Social too?
Is the fedi crowd predominantly the same as the same as the bluesky crowd? If so, surely one will destroy the other? Perhaps? 🤔
No no that's not true. Sometimes a prominent personality from bitcointwitter who barely posts on nostr will drop off a really boring 'meme' about the the price of bitcoin. And that gets automatically put on a trending list too.
- Why is the retention rate so bad?
- Maybe people aren't seeing the latest uptober58kgangstacksatsfuckthefed posts??
(What I imagine a nostr dev growth meeting is like)
Yeah lol, I sometimes look at primal and the "trending" posts are there lol. They even show you people you've blocked. (They're apparently working on this tbf).
I wonder what it would look like if you kept muting the large, boring accounts. Probably still not useful, but less annoying
I really do think nostr needs a 'ehat are they building over there's presence on perhaps substack and twitter. A regularish press release -style update on the projects here.
OpenSats does this to some extent with what they are finding, but also including new independent projects and also their progress. But in a quite dry trade press style (I think the OpenSats grant report is well written for this sort of thing).
What I mean is to not include 'waahey purple ostrich freedom tech, look at this lame memes about the price of bitcoin'. Just a to the point run down of developments, with the occasional big announcements.
I think WeDistribute sort of do this (along with Bluesky and fedi etc), but perhaps they've not really got their finger on the pulse of Nostr and this would be solely nostr.
Obviously I'm not the person to do this. And perhaps it exists already(?)
What's happened now lol? Roya is back, I could delete that one. Fiatjaf is still grumpy, people keep saying bitcoin slogan rubbish. What else is there to add lol?:)
Will any web browser clients have a Full Tor mode like #amethyst ? #asknostr
Pretty amazing and totally noob-friendly service there by vitor. Gotta hand it to him.
Might even forgive him for still not implementing Real Polls :)
