@c6d0060b A lot of these features that distinguish Fedi are *worse* for most users. Opt-in search means it's hard to find what I'm looking for; it's way worse user experience than the global search available on Bluesky, and has been cited as one of the top reasons by people who chose not to use the Fediverse why they left.
@134318c2@c4d83080 The articles on immigration in Europe, same shit. Where in the US the articles go over descriptive statistics and the history of the major immigrant groups, here the articles list a litany of irrelevant social problems. The article on immigration to Sweden sees fit to mention Sweden's rape rate - which has been high for 25 years, since before most refugees came.
@Cat poni, Whorseman of Apocalypse@214fcd33 >the first is always placed between the food and the rest of the train
WTF? The TGV always makes sure to put the cafe between first and second, to prevent that from happening. The ICE... I think sticks first at one end of the train, so it goes first-second-cafe-second, same as Amtrak.
@Cat poni, Whorseman of Apocalypse@214fcd33 Proposal: abolish first class, make second class better. In exchange for FDP's support for this plan, pass a YIMBY law, reduce every C2 language requirement to C1, require government offices to speak English, and, I don't know, announce a new nuclear plant somewhere (it doesn't need to actually go through with how high the construction costs are, but eh, it's FDP).
The speed with which the extreme right and mainline-right enablers move from target to target makes me less pessimistic about climate. In the mid-2010s, Public Enemy #1 was immigrants. It's shifted - now it's trans people and environmentalists (more the former in the UK/US, and more the latter in Northern Europe, but it's both). But the enemies shift too quickly for a backlash the scale of 1970s-80s anti-anti-racism in the US. Long-term, renewables keep expanding and YIMBYism is gaining ground.
