I am late to the game when it comes to the "Free Ross On Day One" conversation
But the little I do know, what a wonderful thing that would be
Sitting in jail for your whole life would be miserable...
Tried not to get wrapped up in the US election too much. Over-promising plus under-delivering is a trend in politics I don't expect to change any time soon... But I did get sent an IG clip by my wife of Kamala Harris taking a phone call, chatting away, talking about someone voting, to then wave to the crowd with her phone clearly on photo mode, so the whole thing was literally "fake news"!
You cannot make this stuff up
WTF
Trying to make an investment which requires me to send USD to a bank account in Canada
Swift, Wire, ACH, none of them seem to work via Transferwise due to "US election means can't secure exchange rate"
Whilst the bank I have in UK has a limit on daily transactions and much worse FX rate
Permissioned money... Painful at times
Bitcoin's ability to increase purchasing power over time
Is going to enable a whole generation of men to be father's
Rather than 1000's of hours working
They'll be more in control of their time
And therefore be able to focus more on the needs of their kids
A blessing to be a part of
Sustainability focused investment adviser: "AI bad due to energy use, so can't own magnificent 7 equities"
The same sustainability focused investment adviser: "rate cuts good for asset prices, so we like investing in small cap equities"
Was a situation I witnessed today...
On the one hand they look only at energy use, as more C02, and therefore bad, rather than recognise the potential efficiency gains
Whilst on the other, they celebrate inflationary monetary policy of central banks to pump asset prices, ignoring the negative externalities
In short: "impact investing" as they like to call it, or ESG focused investing, is a confused, flawed, and failing form of asset allocation
Some recent work on self-image took me to an interesting place:
- One has to have a clear picture of self image, who you are, ethics, what you want. With that, plus a gamification process, in that it has to be fun, it’s possible to make confident decisions. It is the bedrock of everything, a transformation vehicle, which combines a set of principles. You cannot create more than what your self-image allows for. In that sense it can be a limitation. Point being: what self-image encapsulates your wildest dreams, all come true, at the very same time?

The more you ask the question "why does a human set the price of money?"
The more you realise how ridiculous it is that we have the balls to suggest we have the capacity to actually do that
As much as I love the @Highlighter concept, in that it's a solution to a problem I have as a content creator, it literally never loads... (mobile or desktop)
@PABLOF7z
Could this be because I am sitting in Australia?
I was recently told "we create our own reality" by a friend
A few short years ago I would have scoffed at this kind of idea
Now I couldn't believe more in its truth
True.
With a crucial next step: sit, contemplate, and be grateful for the version of your reality that you created
Which is a step I often totally ignore
What I find so hard about this is how much I have to unlearn to realise what you're talking about
Fiat startup culture is fascinating, compelling, alluring, and a place I spent many years
But it's also hard, exhausting, anxiety inducing, and only possible with fiat money, a set of facts I can only see in hindsight
Who would have thought that aiming to create profitable businesses was such a crazy thought!
Seeing @BTCsessions admit to being shadow banned on YT makes me so frustrated
Years of hard work
To then get messed around by the very platform that you put all that energy into
Fingers crossed it gets resolved
BUT
It's also an amazing advert for the benefits of Nostr
Why are there digital gatekeepers? People playing god with what can and cannot be said...
This is a very real problem
With Nostr it might well be solved
Whilst as a capitalist it makes we want to double down on Nostr
YT is a miss-allocation
Indeed X, IG, TikTok et al
They're all a miss-allocation of capital once their guardians decide you're no longer fit for purpose
Nostr enables a superior form of digital property right, and for that reason, it's an incredible new tool for the individual innovator
Very excited to see what happens when talented men just like @BTCsessions no longer build on quicksand...
From Oct 2021 to July 2023 my net assets dropped by 25% in value
It was horrible
Having to go to your wife and admit you'd f*cked up
I'd made a series of investment mistakes...
First off, I had 2 real estate investments, that I was struggling to sell. No-one wanted to buy them!
So what do you do?
Sell at a loss?
Or sit and hold... Then hope that you start to make your money back?
Essentially I had assets on my balance sheet that were over-valued.
To amp things up even more, I one day realised I'd made an accounting error, converting GBP to AUD on an equity position that was wrong
F*ck!
Anyways, 25% less wealth than you though is not your everyday, "oops I've lost my wallet"
Thankfully I was running headlong down the Bitcoin Rabbit Hole, so I made a big call, and decided to re-allocate
I've also since put in place a superior accounting process that I share with my wife weekly
We have far better transparency together on what we own, our expenses, and therefore our savings
Why tell this?
Well I am so grateful to have made those mistakes
Today we're circa 60% better off (in $ terms) to Oct 2023
A win
Which as someone who is very bad at saying well done to themself, I wanted to make public like this, to say so myself
What a time to be alive
Sending good vibes all!
I am so grateful:
- to be in a loving relationship
- to be a father
- to be close with my mother and siblings
- to live in a beautiful place
- to have ideas
- to have friends
- for being creative
- to be able to "hone my craft"
Note to self: please practice this type of thinking more often Jake! Far too harsh to oneself
The word that resonated most there was "conformity"
It's just so boring isn't it???
You just want to shout at them: "COME ON GUYS HAVE A CRACK AT SOMETHING"
But actually breaking "conformity" is anxiety inducing, scary, and most definitely to be avoided
So sorry to hear that Ben. So much hard work has gone into that. Any hope of getting it reversed?
Afraid to say but with Bitcoin and content it's only a matter of time that status quo platforms do this
"Freedom of speech is not freedom of reach"
Very interested to see what alternative solution you come up with... Nostr is too early to give you reach, but you should find the other 2
Build this & they will come...
Been ideating the last couple of hours... How could you build this with Nostr-first approach now?
I think the hardest part is "reach"
Maybe you could do something very unscalable at the start, but simply cross-post to all legacy platforms physically
But one day maybe that would become a "Buffer for Nostr" ie a scheduling tool that automatically published all across the internet

It's hard to ignore, it has huge ramifications , but I can't help but feel more and more indifferent
Blue, red, left, right, it's all the same BS. The tale of the hydra is so apt in this instance
Until Bitcoin is taken seriously, it's impossible to see anything but the continued path of more debt, increased inequality, unaccountability of leaders, huge waste, forever wars, and censorship
I have a few very close family and friends that work in the charity sector
Weirdly I find it very hard to get them interested in Bitcoin
They prefer to get hand outs from Governments and trust institutions like the UN, before questioning the money, and considering Bitcoin
One day there will be a avalanche of mission-driven talent adopting Bitcoin to help the causes they've worked on for so long
Interesting observation, I hadn't tracked that engagement metric
Given the UX of Nostr as it is, plus the sunk cost fallacy of incumbents, I am not all that surprised it's a slow burn
The key is that it exists
And that it's slowly but surely getting more powerful
That's something I can really get behind
A gradual approach to capital creation
Cloud seeding program above Byron is very effective
Today there was something in the air that made all the Dog's at the cafe start barking aggressively when it started drizzling
So strange
Must learn more
For those that had a large exposure to Bitcoin in December of 2023, they're 11 months into that trade, & will be VERY pleased with results thus far
I wonder what another 12 months will do....
Just read that Trump, if elected, would like to abolish income tax in the US
Surely there's some devil in the detail
But wow, wouldn't that be an interesting bit of geopolitical game theory to watch play out
Had my Mum visit on a last minute trip
What a mission from UK to Australia!
So good though
Meeting her Grandson for the first time
And hanging out with her Grand-daughters
Classic to watch
Family really is the best
Sending good vibes all
🙏
The game theory for adoption from the wealthy is increadible to watch
Plus they often sit in places of huge influence, which I think dampens the main regulatory risk
Love it
BULLISH

Thanks Moel. That's a much better explanation. Point is you under-valued Bitcoin at important times...
I purchased a 40 year old classic Mercedes in early 2018 with my converted Bitcoin Cash tokens...
A piece of scrap metal... Which I sold a few months later for cash... Would now be 100s of thousands!
Working on a new podcast cocnept and endeavouring to use AI as much as possible
Branding, workflow, editing
Interesting as I've been slow to adopt these things
Playing around with Venice tonight was very impressive in terms of speed, plus I like the privacy (supposed)

There's a bunch I've enjoyed over the years. X might be easier to find them
Admittedly some are Brits, Safrs, in Australia...
Thanks for sharing this. All the AI tools seem to a scam in that I as a user am the product to some extent... Ie the info I give it feeds the fire
Good to try new things
Venice didn't try sell me a token and accepted BTC payment if I'd signed up so didn't seem too bad
Been doing some analysis on a pre-ipo equity deal today:
- Bitcoin ecosystem and infrastructure play
- getting same price as all funds received in 2024
- will be listed almost the day one invests
- a good chance it can perform akin to MSTR & MetaPlanet
- I am a big fan of some key co-investors
What I don't like:
- analog investing due diligence details (long pdf's with legals)
- the risk of a company in general
- the counter-parties you have to trust
- over engineering financially
- one's brain capacity or attention being lured away from elsewhere... (first world problem!)
Let's see if I am able to jump the last couple of DD hurdles
🙏
I am sorry to hear that. Rough ride. Everything is a tuition fee en route to Bitcoin in my experience
At least now you have a firm base to build from for the the rest of your life
I'd like to think that as a nostr-only user currently, I am already living this
I just don't have any influence from elsewhere
(That is until I log back into IG or X when following a link, look, browse, get irritated, then angry, then anxious, and ultimately am reminded why I left in the first place...!)
Recently, whenver I've been struggling to sleep, I remind myself:
- you can't do anything about the past
- you can't do anything about the future right now
And generally I fall straight to sleep
Great insight, thanks for sharing

I would much prefer if I could say there's a bunch of "other stuff" already in use and providing value, but that's not the case yet
