If #nostr is pretending to be really censorship resistant, why are multimedia files stored on servers? Servers can be tracked down and shut down. Wouldn’t it be better to encode and include multimedia attachments into the notes themselves? #asknostr #nostrprotocol

I get it that it would be harder on the relays, but I think the benefits would make up for it.
GM @RenderBitcoin that’s right! Seems like the wiggle method is the only one I can handle. Can’t manage to make those pretty tulips YouTubers show all over.
Thanks! I can’t figure out what’s wrong lately. It’s skimmed milk, but I think I had better results even with skimmed milk before. Got to try low fat again and see if that’s it.
Yeah, I don’t know why it’s so hard to get a decent latte art lately… I used to be able to make better ones. Must be the skimmed milk.
Flirting with keto? Honestly, when I did that, I’ve been disappointed by all those keto substitutes I tried. Some are ok, some resemble the original non-keto food somehow, but none come even close to the flavor and texture of the real thing.

Not that they are bad, but when I expect to eat a pizza, the chewy, airy pizza crust, the taste and smell of that fermented dough makes up most of the sensorial experience. A keto pizza will never be a pizza, even if it’s delicious nonetheless.

It’s much more rewarding finding new real delicious original keto recipes and not trying to resemble non-keto food that you love, because it’s very likely it will end in disappointment and going back to the real thing eventually.
 I'm curious, how do you trust a #nostr #relay?
I might be wrong, but as I understand it, you don’t need to trust a relay. It’s just a messenger that brings you notes, and the notes are signed by the private key of the account who wrote it.

I imagine it’s like PGP signed emails. The signature is what guarantees you that you’re reading the original and unaltered email and it does not matter how you received it.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, #nostr experts.
I think the more important question is: how do you trust the nostr client you’re using?

All those clients that you put your nsec in so you can post, can steal your profile and there’s nothing you can do about it. There is no password to change. Once they have your nsec key, they own your profile forever and can do anything with it.
I am just guessing here, as I don’t know the insides and I am curious about these things too.

I assume that censoring in a specific relay is perfectly possible as the notes are public and I relays can probably implement any kind of filter they want and decide which note to keep.

About how notes get distributed around the nostr network, it’s a mystery to me. I think relays are not connected to each other, so I have no idea how it works.

And finally: of course you can (and should for the reasons above) add multiple relays and your notes will be published on more than one. What I did in the beginning, was look at which relays users that I found interesting were using and add them to my client.

Interesting. The primal desktop app looks really good! I knew about Gossip, which doesn’t look very user friendly. Maybe I should give the Primal mobile app a second chance too.
Neither has ios support unfortunately. I am switching back and forth between Damus and Nostur. Checked out primal, but discarded it after it was I saw that you can't use an external lightning wallet and had to enter personal information to open a primal wallet.
About six months into the third attempt to complete #couchto5k #running program, I am one “week” away from completing it. I very much doubt it that I’ll actually be able to run #5k but being able to run/jog 30 minutes non-stop is still a great achievement, even if it’s at 8:30/km.

whats a good alternative to google maps? i use waze but i heard its google owned too #asknostr #d...
 #google bought #waze quite a while ago.

Open source alternative would be Openstreetmap. It’s a great project, but it depends what you’re looking for. I think they don’t have a mobile app nor navigation. There might be some third party apps offering navigation using openstreetmap though.
weird day and forgot to say GM #coffeechain.
So here it is, GM coffeechain at 9pm.

It’s 9am in Honolulu, so it still counts.
How does #nostr handle #compromised keys? Is there any protocol allowing to mark those keys in any way?

If not, I would suggest adding something like this. Handling of compromised keys can be left to relays and clients, but there should be a way to mark keys as compromised so relays and followers can know that they can’t be trusted anymore.

I’m pretty sure there was a button to #zap notes in #damus before, but somehow I can’t find it anymore. It’s gone both in #damus and in #nostur. I can only zap profiles, not notes. Must be something I did in my profile to break it for both clients…

Any idea how I messed this up and how to fix it? #asknostr
Not sure, honestly. I think it was here a few weeks ago, but could have been longer.

I can zap profiles though. Shouldn’t that be banned too?
Nice! But running unknown scripts from random internet pages is usually not a good idea. https://tenor.com/es-419/view/scared-nervous-gif-27353488
Yeah, I did some googling and it does seem legit. Still kinda spooky though. Thanks!
Frankly, I fuss over the future of #Nostr. Onboardung is still clunky, so normies see Nostr as a ...
Nostr IS a bitcoiner thing. I don’t think onboarding is that hard though. Creating a profile in a #nostr client is easier than creating a user/password pair on any other platform. All you need to save is one string and that’s it basically.

The incentive comes from the content. #nostr is 99% about #bitcoin and how to #grownostr. That’s not a bad thing, not it’s not something that will attract users outside of the bitcoin community.

I wouldn’t call them normies though and that implies bitcoin users are not normal 😁
You don’t need to deal with the key pair thing unless you change devices or clients. A normal user just needs to click create account, ignore the key thing, add a user name and is ready to go. Many twitter users don’t know their password and if they can’t recover it, they just make a new account.
Why is lightning labs working on projects for building stablecoins on lightning?

#AskNostr
Didn’t know they were, but I think it’s a great idea. Both to have stablecoins available outside of ERC-20 or BRC-20, on a fast and cheap network, and to add to lightning use cases.

Stablecoins on bitcoin without clogging the blockchain, what’s there not to like? I think it would boost #bitcoin adoption.
 Why?
Disruptive or not, #bitcoin needs to be widely adopted to be useful. And it needs to be useful to be widely adopted.

Like it or not, the world runs on dollars. Businesses run on dollars and it’s a pain in the ass adopting bitcoin for business transactions. And I’m not taking about technical difficulties. Not even network fees which are actually quite decent most of the time. But the simple need to introduce an unregulated, highly volatile asset in one balance sheet is not for everybody. Add the additional accounting effort needed and tax uncertainty, as governments are not sure about how to tax bitcoin transactions and can change the rules anytime.

Even so, I am open to offer payments in #bitcoin in my business, but there is zero demand for it. Can you guess what the only demand in crypto payments is? The answer is #USDC and #USDT. Why let #ethereum steal the show, if #bitcoin can do it better and cheaper on #lightning?
In all seriousness, where do you see the future of Nostr? So far it would seem that the growth ha...
Out of the top of my head, I think there are two types of social network users that help a network grow:

1. The ones that look for content. Either out of interest or out of boredom.

2. Attention seekers that need for first kind of users either for their personality or out of economic interest.

Once a critical mass of those two groups is reached, the network will thrive.

Seems like 99% of #nostr users are either bitcoin devs or #bitcoin enthusiasts. It’s hard to find anything not bitcoin related here. On the other hand, it’s a great place to find about the latest developments in bitcoin and security in general.

I hope #elonmusk will keep fucking up #twitter and the user base here will grow outside of the bitcoin community soon. #grownostr
