i would say that it is "confirmation bias" mainly, and sadly it happens in every field... not only in politics... it is part of the human nature i guess, we all hang around with people that shares our mindsets... i quote the Wikipedia: "Confirmation bias is insuperable for most people, but they can manage it, for example, by education and training in critical thinking skills."
i would say that a grave is like a point of connection. a place where, if you go, you can do meditation with a particular group of thoughts in mind. sometimes people visit meaningful places through do the same. you can have a look to this video (this YouTube channel is awesome, has plenty of interesting content).
