I am late to the Breaking Bad party, but I still feel guilty enjoying a program based on the alleged crimes of a man just trying to provide for his family in the face of a fatal but curable illness.
It's really as simple as: if you want to be an asset that has considerable value compared to US Dollars -- either go it alone (that is without US Dollar investment) or follow the same rules (CSAM bars, AML, KYC and sanctions) as USD.
Not sure which path is best right now. But that's only because I generally follow USD regulations as currently crafted. However, remember I was introduced to bitcoin because of anti-poker legislation in the US.
Eventually, yes we won't care about USD convertibility.
Any suggestions?
I changed some things about my system (moved external drive from /media/user/external/bitcoin to /mnt-external/bitcoin) and now bitcoin core 23 can’t find it.
I am thinking of updating/upgrading anyway. Would it be better to just update?
Most people just can't make the leap from money to don't trust. Virtually everyone alive today (i.e. , all those in the US born post 1925) has no experience with bearer instrument money. Many are like my wife, "I trust Fidelity to hold my money (bitcoin) more than I trust me to not lose it."
Fortunately, for those that trust Fidelity, Fidelity Crypto has a very nice product that is remarkably similar to an ETF whereby you purchase bitcoin (or actually engage them to purchase bitcoin on your behalf), they take all responsibility for securing it in a set of secure wallets and allocate to your account the fiat exchange rate of the coins you have purchased.
It's not ideal but for those that cannot conceive of money without banks/centralized authorities, it's a start.
With the mempool clogged beyond belief due to the juvenile antics of the ordinals/inscriptions gang, I would remind folks that Strike offers free transfers to your own wallet provided you are willing to wait up to twelve hours. On the other hand, their bid ask spreads (at Strike) are fairly punitive.
Maybe a sort of lightning testnet/sandbox where we could challenge kids to play a game based on building a bitcoin-like environment and trying to hack it.
For example, if there are 30 kids in a class/lab, what would be the minimum number of bits for a private key to assure no collisions?
Building a hashing app/program to create the most leading zeros from a hash in the least amount of time using the least amount of energy.
Your role is villain and your aim is to hack the network and steal everyone's coins.
Etc.
I watched it when it aired on BloombergTV. The one guy was pretty horrible, seemed like a senior editor based in NYC. "Bitcoin will never be anything." Or similar. But overall, at least OK.
Shitcoining away at the end. When Sorkin and Kernan understand the space better than you, it's sad.
But there were some really GOOD questions in this segment. "Do you think any of these companies will outperform Bitcoin?" "No."

Which is why I only keep <$100 on it. It trumps all others for speed and convenience. But like much of the internet, all that functionality comes at the expense of privacy and security.
Well that was close enough to heaven for a practical agnostic (I don’t care what you believe, I’m not pro or anti any ism, I’m open to almost all approaches and I just keep doing what works and discard what doesn’t).
I just dreamt that we, those living and those that have finished their work here, were having a traditional holiday dinner and everyone was enjoying lively and stimulating conversation, about us, not about world events that we had only heard about through mass media (aka propaganda).
For a few hours, we had set aside all differences and especially grievances and we were just enjoying the company of loved ones. We were even planning for the future.
Oh yeah, and this all happened in Iowa City.
I said when Hamas attacked, “They really fucked up. Those Israelis don’t fuck around.” And Israelis for their part, would be a lot more secure and welcome in AZ and/or UT and even have their own nation in the middle of a desert there.
But if nobody wants to get along with their neighbors, “Go ahead, knock yourselves out.”
If you can't find enough dollars to pay for imports, which is a better alternative: tea or bitcoin? Which would you rather receive: tea or bitcoin?

I'm not such a Libertarian that I think that the State has no right to declare ANYTHING illegal. But I am enough of a Libertarian to think that they should use their investigative resources to stop the taboo behavior. Not use their money to cut people off from spending their own money.
Her actions are none of your business. Decide if you want to be with her . . . as she is . . . or not. If not, move on. Full stop. If yes, take her as she is.
