@2a70c54d Seems like that's been their plan for years, only just getting worse as time goes by. Step 1: Sabotage government programs. Step 2: Yell to people, "See? Gubmint dudn't werk!" Step 3: Lather, rinse repeat.
A company just sent me an email to justify their switch to a subscription model. This was my reply:
I’ve been on software advisory boards for billion dollar companies like Autodesk and others, and on beta testing teams since the 1990s when there was no such thing as a “public beta.” I absolutely understand that development costs money and resources, but the subscription model was something concocted by bankers.... 1/
Even in your email, your excuses for your subscription model are garden variety landlord sound bites. “But we keep the property maintained and manage repairs! Just keep paying us rent or we’ll evict you.” And that’s exactly what happens when one cancels their rent to Adobe or whoever. You no longer get access to the tools to reload any old projects you may have archived. So no, I will not pay any software landlord and will find a competitor’s product without this protection racket scheme.
@6ee90ca1 Ugh. Sorry for that news. Nothing changes mine. It just varies in intensity throughout the day. Because it's always been there, I'm able to tune it out.
Just downloaded the Blackmagic Design camera app, and I have to say I'll never again miss Filmic Pro, which is now subscription only. I don't immediately see how to record in any kind of LOG color scheme, but since the app does allow ProRes 422 10 bit recording, I suppose it's just a matter of importing a LUT that goes from Rec.709 to something like Sony Slog, or Arri, or.... I'll be playing with this in the coming days and will post my results. I once again applaud Blackmagic.
Bring back the DVD director commentary tracks for all the streaming shows. Just make it an optional audio track selection. Sure, don't do every episode of a series. That's crazy. But the pilot episode? Or the series finale? Yes! And for your movies, absolutely! Value add your stuff, streamers. Your fans will appreciate it.
I'm halfway through episode 2 of HBO's #Telemarketers, and I think my jaw has been hanging open the whole time. I keep mumbling "holeeeeeee Shiiiiiit" constantly. This is crazy!
Edited to add #ACAB !!!
@2a70c54d All I can imagine are the Vichy French, and people who think disease preventing masks are an attack on personal freedoms while vaccines give them 5G cellular reception. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
