Very strange...
My #DeGoogled #Pixel 7, which has such heroic battery life, went from 61% battery to 45% battery overnight, even though it was on battery saver mode.
Usually pixels will only drop a handful of percentage points overnight while on battery saver.
My phone regularly gives me two days of battery life, unlike my old Pixel 4a 5G, which was usually down to 20% by the end of the day.
#PSA: Don't let your phone's battery get below 20% if you want to daily-drive it for a long time.
@LucasGGamerM
Oh man! That's a very senior lady of a car! (:
I had an '02 Corolla. She wasn't super sturdy of axle (definitely not a gravel-road car), and she had the engine oil sludge problem, but she would've lasted me a lot of years if not for getting totalled in an unfortunate accident.
@b1398a2d
Dwindling because of unrealistic prices, not demand, unfortunately.
At least in North America, our cities are designed for cars and only cars.
#Mozilla's recent article about privacy issues with *all* modern cars is pretty horrifying.
I'll be holding on to my 2016 model for as long as possible.
Just imagine cars in the next ten years getting #enshittified like inkjet printers. XD
Also, random tangential reminder: subscriptions are all about manufacturing false scarcity.

I found the SNR to be about the same as #PeerTube, with the important distinction that PeerTube's "noise" consists of lots of random videos that are neither very good, nor very bad, but just "stuff," while #LBRY/#Odysee's "noise" is... bonkers crazy awfulness. Insane political crap (heavy on the neo-neo-conservative side, a.k.a. fascists and propaganda), spooky nonsense, and just... ugh.

I'm kinda sad that the NextStep derivates are all in maintenance mode and barely used (not counting Apple products). That OS had so many great ideas.
Have you looked at HelloSystem and AiryxOS? They're both #FreeBSD-based OS projects taking inspiration from early Mac OS X.
#HelloSystem is trying to recreate the feel, functionality, and philosophy of pre-iOSification Mac OS X, while #Airyx is actually striving for Mac OS compatibility.

I'd just love something with the flexibility and customization of KDE Plasma, but with fewer bugs. I might try out #Nitrux, as they have a #MauiKit-based DE that is kinda like Plasma-Lite.
@4eebd810
Because for a long time, Chrome was objectively better. Faster, for certain.
Now that's no longer the same, but people loathe change, so they stick with the crappy, user-hostile solution.

Yeah, it's not a super accurate enumeration, as I'm relying on the mostly braindead marketing terms of others, lol
I'd say that web 3 is neither the semantic web (unfortunately), nor the crytposcam web, but rather the modern, locked-down, siloed, coercive and user-hostile web that we live in today. y a a y
So Web 2.x was around 2004-2018, and the modern, sinister web has been since then.
Went to a hardware manufacturer's website, and the first thing I see is in big letters:
"In the AI Economy, blah blah blah"
🤮🤮🤮
Web 1: Quaint and elegant
Web 2: Dynamic and powerful
Web 3: "Crypto" snake oil B.S.
Web 4: "The AI Economy" (massive layoffs and fat cats getting fatter)
Web 5: "We will steal your eff'n kidneys if you don't watch your back!"
@aa7a537d
I'd honestly love to see an airtag jammer device that incapacitates the AirTag network with false traffic.
Because 1) I didn't sign up to be a part of a wireless tracking network, and 2) Such amazing technology (worldwide wireless mesh networking) should be for the betterment of humanity, not selling apple crap. :P

I'm out. 🤣
In all fairness, Finnish is a beautiful language. But I think I've got a better chance at learning to program the ENIAC. ;)
Update on my new phone (and Android ROM adventures):
I'm liking GrapheneOS' enhanced security features, but there are quality-of-life features I really miss from #CalyxOS:
* Flashlight gesture
* Quick settings pull-down gesture (pull down from corner go straight to quick settings)
* Accessibility magnifier gesture (instead of the obnoxious little floating button)
* MicroG (YES. As an option. I'd like a ROM that has all three: No GSF, Fake GSF (MicroG), Sandboxed GSF)
...
...
* Dedicated wifi quick settings button -- For the of of God, what are you doing, GOOG?
* Very friendly community
Things I'd miss if I left #GrapheneOS:
* Hardened everything
* Sandboxed GSF (I can restore in-app purchases!)
* Storage Scopes (YAAAAS!!)

Oh man, my mom even bought me a compuserve subscription. I seem to remember it was something insane like $6/minute?!? (Or was it hour???)
I don't remember using it very much. She got me GEnie in the very early 90s, and that was more affordable (and had a lot of good mac stuff in it)
I vaguely remember hooking up to some BBSes as well, now.
Welp, I got my old Nokia 6.1 (2018) up and mostly operational now.
I even have it mostly de-googled, thanks to TrackerControl (marvelous app!)
I guess I'm parking here (again) until the Fairphone 5 comes out.
Sadly, my Pixel only lasted me 2.61 years. That's a lot less than my beloved iPhone 4 (3.27y), and my *cursèd* Green iPhone 5c (3.66y)
You know, there's a direct analogue to #RedHat re: their frustration over people ripping off their hard work:
#PrusaResearch
Josef #Prusa has been releasing fully open source (and awesome) 3D printers for years now, and there are *tons* of cheap Asian-manufactured clones for half the price (and a whole heck of a lot of trouble).
I don't remember Prusa ever talking about removing anyone's access to the code and designs of their printers if they shared it with an Asian manufacturer.

Haven't seen techlore's latest video (kinda of befuddling that he's recommending iOS, but whatevs), but have you checked out some of the minimalistic Andrid launchers?
I'm rather fond of "KISS Launcher," but OLauncher is even more minimalistic. :D
@f1f1114e
Also, thank you! I've already gotten further than either of my previous attempts. I'm enjoying it. Mainly learning using #Duolingo. Sometimes I look up some words that get confusing (tio, tiom, kio, kiom, ĉar, pro, pro) and keeping notes in #SimpleNote.
Ĝi really estas tre bela lingvo. :)
Mi looking forward al paroli fluently soon :D

I made the mistake of having swim trunks with pockets.
What do I do whenever I'm getting ready to go somewhere? I put my phone in my pocket.
You can extrapolate the rest. XD
It's deader than dead. The screen doesn't even turn on any more.
I did my best to wash it in alcohol to get the fluids out, but phones don't take kindly to (even mild) saltwater, and mine made no pretense of being waterproof.

Hmm... I'm not personally a huge fan of pork, but ignoring bacon would be ignoring a pretty thick slice (pun intended) of Americana.

Belated Happy Anniversary!!
Chicken Tikka Masala is my favorite Indian dish, I think. At least, among the well-known was.
When I was a kid, it was Mattar Paner.
