So funny you should say this! Last week I went to our local library for the first time in close to a decade! I used to go 3-4 times a week with the kids as they were growing up.

Of the 4 workers there, the one who had been there the longest started in February 2023.

So sad to hear. They weasel their way into our hearts, and we can't bear it when they are in pain. 12 years is a good run, but Ah, phooey! End of life issues are rough!

The "whole word" method was experimented with in Michigan in the 40s with my dad. He never learned to spell. They knew it was bad for kids to not learn phonics, but they kept experimenting with "whole word" over and over and over. Some places still use that horrid method.
