Introducing accelerated Instant Backups, brought to you by @semisol
If you want your backup instantly, literally lightning-fast, you can use this:

Thank him for this.
Accelerated instant backups will go live today.
It will be a first, but significant step toward giving users full control over their data, rather than relying entirely on relays. @semisol π€π€
I don't want to spoil it; something very interesting is coming.
You will never lose your data after that, Never. We will solve this problem once and for all, @semisol π€π€
You can even make them smart by providing them with this QR code and setting a one-month interval.
This way, they will be able to scan it every month to receive their salary, and you can keep customizing it.
Ok, open this in browser, enter your public key and click on broadcast, minimise the browser and keep using your phone. It will keep running in the background.
When fetching is done, it will ask for download permission, Allow. It will download the copy. Donβt broadcast for now. Most relay spam filter blocks it. We are too early. π€·ββοΈ nostr:note1xf5t25jmalcnxwqpj6jgd2gge32gdx9syvwm36fqjxv5qtf5zw6skcpkml
I mean you will see all the numbers how many events it is downloading from which relays and how many it was able to broadcast.
This simple application also tells you were your data is really stored.

If you've been here for a while, and have created a lot of notes, remember that relays will delete old notes.
To keep them, use my Backup service to download copy of them, you will be able to restore them later, it also updates your notes everywhere.
Backup everything: https://nostryfied.online
Your keys, your notes; only you can post, and only you can read your DMs because they are encrypted.
However, whatever you post publicly is public data and is available to everyone, it open protocol.
You can download copy of them and broadcast it to some other relay.
So, basically, the goal is that you should never have to worry about these things.
Some developments are happening in the NostrDB (database) space and elsewhere. All these backups will be automated after that.
But yeah, it's nice to know what's happening under the hood. π
We need to transition away from direct private key login. It's not only insecure and bad for onboarding experience, but it is also a bottleneck to this protocols development.
The majority of the web ecosystem is declining because a large percentage of people either don't understand what extensions are or haven't set them up.
No one is building native apps because they know that no one will use the app's private key for login.
Soon, there could be a security exploit, and keys may be leaked, resulting in headlines like "Nostr got hacked," and that will always stay with nostr.
All major clients must reach a consensus to establish a standard for disposable secondary keys.
How is this not a priority?
I have stopped using any new native clients; I am just not comfortable entering my private key into some random client.
On the web, we at least have extensions, which too set a high bar for most people.
Every centralized company is obligated to share any user info with the government in every country that has any kind of terrorism and CP laws.
The moment you give up your nsec custody, you are opening an irreversible backdoor to your account;
It's not my opinion, It's a fact.
I mean they would have to knock on your door, and there would be at least some kind of fight.
If you give up your nsec, you wouldn't even know, and someone will be reading your DMs.
In the next update, every NostrNet user will get a LnBits wallet.
I want to offer some cool lightning-related features that are not possible with regular wallets. like Paywalls, Marketplace, split-payment & more
Btw, you will be able to manage that LnBits wallet through your Zeus.
You will also be able to attach your node and self-hosted Lnbits.
Yeah, it drains quickly π. You can set the intervals between each withdrawal, specify maximum and minimum amounts, and determine the number of withdrawals.
If any client takes custody of a user's private key, it deserves backlash. It's the worst kind of trust model; it's irreversible, and you're trusting them forever.
Imagine storing your sats in WoS once, and they gain the power to withdraw any amount of Bitcoin from your wallet for forever, whether you use it or not.
Just logging in once to ZBD is essentially creating a backdoor to your account forever.
You wouldn't even know, and your messages could be decrypted because some government agency requested it from ZBD, not to mention the potential accidents.
And it's irreversible, I don't understand why this is even a debate.
