I can’t believe how many people in the U.S.A. want to force a 12 year old girl to carry a rape baby to term, risking her health, safety, and ability to have future children, but they can’t be bothered to wear a mask for 20 minutes in a grocery store.

I think the smart people (and most indie artists are smart little whips, dontcha know) learned from Elon's Musk not to trust that things will stay the same when a platform we've come to depend on changes hands.

It definitely depends on genre, too. I know rap and some edm genres do well on Soundcloud, and Metal fans aren't big on streaming services like Spotify. It seems like a "know where the fans of your type of music already are, and be where they are" type of deal.
If you enjoy music but don't make it yourself, you might not know how much time, work, & money goes into making just one song, (literally over a hundred hours, easily, in my case).
Streaming pays an insignificant sum. While I still haven't made back the $$ it costs me just to get my songs copyrighted, pay for artwork, and put up on streaming platforms, I've made literally 10x the amount of money on Bandcamp that I have from streams AND sales on ALL other streaming platforms.

It's not giraffe money by any means. It's not even grocery money.
But it IS "I can prove to the DOL that I run a legitimate business" money. It's "someone likes my art" money. 🙏 ❤️

HOLY SHIT it may be the last #BandcampFriday EVER, depending on how the sale of Bandcamp to Songtradr eventually shakes out. Word on the street is that Epic sold Bandcamp when its employees sought to unionize. Time will tell if #Songtradr makes things better or worse for artists and employees.

For the uninitiated, Bandcamp is one of the few outlets for indie musicians to sell their tracks directly to fans. They usually take a 15% cut of all sales, but on #BandcampFriday, they forego their cut so artists get more profit (minus CC and Paypal fees), at no cost to the fans. It's a win-win for artists and fans, at the expense of company profits.
Bandcamp started doing this as an act of goodwill during the pandemic lockdowns, when musicians couldn't perform live.

I’d make lots of money composing songs everyone knows but no one really knows who wrote them (ghost producer, or sync music), and be secretly wealthy, anonymously finding GoFundMe and Kickstarter projects just for the fun of making someone’s day.

That, and I don’t trust cars (human-driven or automated) to pay attention and not run me over.
