At the end of the day, if you have a hardware wallet and it says it generates a seed phrase one time, and one time only, you are the most custodial of custodians.
If you use an app and it says you HAVE TO WRITE IT DOWN OR YOU WILL LOSE ACCESS TO YOUR FUNDS, it is very probable you hold your keys and nobody else does.
If you can just “get started” for free but you are paying additional fees over the appropriate block transaction fees (based on mempool activity at the time) or lightning fees, to use their wallet, you are 100% custodial and if they get shut down or rug, you forfeit everything you held with the wallet. Not safe at all for more than lunch money, and if Bitcoin goes to billions or trillions, you just got rugged for thousands or millions of “today cuckbucks” in the inflated future.

. . : : The Hacker's Manifesto : : . .
Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers. "Teenager
arrested in computer crime scandal", "Hacker arrested after bank
tampering"...
Damn Kids. They're all alike.
But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's technobrain ever
take a look behind the eyes of a hacker? Did you ever wonder what made
him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded him?
I am a hacker, enter my world...
Mine is a world that begins with school. I've listened to the teacher
explain for the fifteenth time how to reduce a fraction. I understand
it. "No, Mrs. Smith, I didn't show my work. I did it in my head..."
Damn kid. Probably copied it. They're all alike.
I made a discovery today. I found a computer. Wait a second, this is
cool. It does what I want it to do. If it makes a mistake, it's because
I screwed up. Not because it doesn't like me...
or feels threatened by me...
or thinks I'm a smart ass...
or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here...
Damn kid. All he does is play games. They're all alike.
And then it happened... A door opened to a world... Rushing through the
phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an electronic pulse is
sent out, a refuge from the day to day incompetencies is sought... A
board is found.
"This is it... This is where I belong..."
I know everyone here... Even if I've never met them, never talked to
them, may never hear from them again... I know you all...
Damn kid. Tying up the phone line again. They're all alike...
You bet your ass we're all alike... We've been spoon fed baby food at
school when we hungered for steak... The bits of meat that you did let
slip through were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by
sadists, or ignored by the apathetic. The few that had something to
teach found us willing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in
the desert.
This is our world now... The world of the electron and the switch, the
beauty of the baud. We make use of a service already existing without
paying for what could be dirt cheap if it wasn't run by profiteering
gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore... And you call us
criminals. We exist without skin color, without nationality, without
religious bias... And you call us criminals. You build atomic bombs,
you wage wars, you murder, you cheat, and lie to us and try to make us
believe it's for our own good, yet we're the criminals.
Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that
of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like.
My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never
forgive me for.
I am a hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this individual,
but you can't stop us all...
After all, We're all alike.

Been here since before the first “halvening” and one thing I can say for certain, is: I have never been more excited for an event in my life each time this happens. I think the best way to look at if you’re Bitcoin rich is, how much more Bitcoin do you have above the current Bitcoin subsidy? If you have had 6.25 BTC during this epoch, you were “Bitcoin Rich” 🤑 After today and after the new bottom that proceeds this bull, I’d say the new 3.125 subsidy will make you rich enough to buy a house.
What makes me think of this:
I heard in one of the 164928 documentaries on money that I have watched/listened to that gold has always been able to buy a man
An entire suit (including shirts and accessories like cuff links), a new tie and a new pair of shoes.
I think the then-current Bitcoin block subsidy will always buy you a home and acreage. I think the size of the home and acreage will adjust (probably up) over time, but I think the subsidy will ALWAYS buy you a nice house and some acreage in a modest neighborhood from here on out.
@TC
Any chance we could get the current block hash or at least a partial of it added? Maybe in a really small font, within the blockclock? Either above or below the block height somewhere?
Would be great to prove something occurred when a screenshot was taken on the page and, for example, written on with an Apple Pencil or similar?

Crazy I just found a screenshot of these times... crazy that Bitcoin is over $60,000 and people are complaining when I remember this all time high like it was yesterday.
Just happened across one of my first Bitcoin wallet addresses and see that over 500BTC went through it. Lost most of it to playing Satoshi Dice like a total idiot.
Before that, in 2010, I lost over 500 (good chance it was closer to 5000) BTC because I didn’t know what I had when I mined them.
Fml. 🤦♂️
Sending a tx just a few Satoshi less than what is clearing current blocks is masochistic. I don’t know why I do this to myself.
Oh yeah I do, it’s to save hundreds of thousands of sats over the past 14 years and years to come that will someday make sure my great great great great grandchildren each have their own citadel. 😅
And people apparently don’t think Coinbase could rug the world in the coming decades. It’s becoming the Bitcoin central bank and shitcoin casino all-in-one. 🏦
What say the Nostr community about the fact that every single zap is a taxable event?
Does this not prohibit all law-abiding citizens from wanting to participate in Bitcoin?
There is the Virtual Currencies Tax Fairness Act that was introduced to the House of Representatives exempting transactions under $200, but what about RIGHT now?! Seems impossible to account for every zap and the capital gains and losses on each transaction.
How can a Nostritch stay compliant with the current rules?! This is a mess as it stands. Let’s hope the <$200 house bill passes and soon.
It worked!! I don’t know who sent the test amount of 21 twice or if it was from X or here, but thank you for verifying it worked!!!! So cool 😎 Can’t believe my node just received payment from a random stranger on the internet. I freakin’ love Bitcoin & Lightning!!!! And thanks again to whomever sent the test TXs!!!!!! 🤘

Forgive me, Nostr, for I have sinned! 😂 😆
I only did it to try to get a quick response to see if I needed to tweak anything to get it to work. 😜
I returned your sats in case someone else needs help testing their set up or something. Greatly appreciate ya for the help!! 🤘
Could someone please try this lnURLpay at so I can see if I set it up correctly? I’m not sure if it will route over the internet correctly and for all wallets.
Thank you!! 🙏 🙏 🙏

Awesome!!!! 👏 Thank you so much for lending me a hand in testing!!! 🙏
This is an LND instance running on LAN, but accessible via a domain by using a CloudFlare Zero Trust Tunnel to avoid exposing IP of where the machine really is. 😎 Next step for me is to see if I can route it over its tor address via cleaner wallets. I don’t know how that works. #Bitcoin #Lightning #NodeRunner #HackingAwayAtBitcoin #LearningBitcoinHandsOn
Do you think the majority of people even know interest has to be paid on the money the government creates?
Guess if they don’t know that, they also don’t understand that there is no way to ever pay it off because more is owed than has been created at all times.
US Gov is playing a game of musical chairs that they are inevitably going to lose. 🤔
Was playing around with #chatgpt4 and ran this thought experiment:
I was trying to see what price satoshis (and bitcoin) would have to be at in order to sustain the median yearly income in the US across the entire planet of 7.9 billion people. (crap, already realized I didn't account for possibly lost coins!!) but anyway... it was a fun thought experiment to do and let ChatGPT do all of the heavy lifting for me. I just kept feeding it variables and my ideas, having it look up stats on bing and set them equal to variables. It was really cool!
I had never used variables in ChatGPT before today, so that's an exciting advancement on my own part. LOL! Anyway, enjoy the nice table GPT4 put together for me!

Okay! I have Docker and Polar running and updated.
Now to figure out what projects I want to work on with an entire test bed Bitcoin network. Would be kind of cool to run Elements for Liquid alongside Lightning and Bitcoin via Polar. Having direct control over the mining and not having to wait on mining or take all the time setting up all the individual nodes to test theories is awesome and, no pun intended, lightning fast! 👏 ⚡️
What should I learn next?! I’d like to get a job in lightning engineering or dev, but either I’m suffering from imposter syndrome, or I’m just really not sure where I’d fit in when I read job descriptions. I’d have to work remotely. Having to go into IRL meetings and/or sit at a desk all day or commute for hours -isn’t for me. 🤷♂️

Yes, next step is most definitely to move to at least an SSD. Even lightning transactions move at a snails pace over it. 😂
I’d love to upgrade my main server machine to a 2-4TB NVME (the current 1TB is too small with all the stuff I have on it) and host the data folders there over a samba share and 10 gig networking to the node software server. 48 gig of memory on the host machine for the MyNode install if I move it over.
It would be a nice upgrade over the 10 gig of RAM it has allocated now. I didn’t realize it would be so IO-intense! It’s been quite a long time since I last ran a node. Blockchain was probably in the 200-300 GB range, then. Lightning was just invented a few months before that. Lightning is actually what made me run a node last time. I wanted to learn what these “bar tabs” were that they were building on top of the base layer. 😂
I actually haven't tried using loop or pool, yet. More things I want to look into once I'm satisfied that my nodes are up and running without hiccups or chance of losing funds. With the horrible iowait times I'm having with an HDD, I'm scared to do much. Just spun up a VM of Start9os and syncing a new node now. Maybe I'll play with loop and pool once it's up and running on my better server hardware. :)
At the moment, I need to figure out how to rebalance my channels, because my ACINQ channel is pretty much receive-only right now less about 18k sats.
I also have one smaller channel that I opened and it isn't being utilized during payments, so I may close that channel and open a new one with a better node. I believe it's the 1ml alpha node - it has good connectivity, but it never routes payments for some reason. Bitstamp and ACINQ seem to be working perfectly, though. Sent almost $1000USD in a lightning payment with no issues whatsoever using those two channels.
How are we at 8 sats/byte? We keep this up, we won’t need layer 2. 😂
All jokes aside, probably just a lull in network activity because it’s the weekend. 🤷♂️
I know I’m not a big zapper (I usually only zap a sat, unless I find something particularly valuable to my life), but I zap everything I would normally like on other social media platforms.
I would zap more, but when you are a father of 4, in a household of 6, with the income we have, we are lucky that we have Bitcoin as a possible (if it goes up 10-20x in the next 5-10 years) “last Hail Mary” because we are screwed, if not. Since COVID, things have been really hard.
Sad to be in this situation considering I was CPU mining Bitcoin in 2010-2011. Of course, I did this instead of SETI@HOME and then my grandpas laptop got lost over the years. Had to have at least 500 Bitcoin in that drive’s wallet.dat. I try to just not think about it. Crazy how much different my life would be with that 500BTC in a wallet still. Of course I would have sold some over the years and lost them to Satoshi Dice (damn you, Erik, you got me way back then!! Didn’t know what I had) but maybe I’d still have 5-10 left over after all of the risky behavior in the beginning.
Anyway, I was digressing; I loved the idea of the tipping bots on Twitter over the past decade, but I’m really loving Nostr and the community feeling like home. It’s so cool to know almost everyone here knows at least a bit about crypto and privacy and everybody is just into all the things I am into as well. Glad we have Nostr as a last bastion of hope in an endless ocean of centralized billion-dollar data stores.
I been taking advantage of it to open a few lightning channels. Consumed maybe 10 TXs the past few days. Nice to get in for 10-15 sats/byte on all of them. Used mempool.space, connected to my node to watch the fees on the prior 3-4 blocks and made sure I was one sat higher than the fees being paid on them. Worked like a charm. Had one transaction get in a block within 2 minutes, for under $2 in fees, actually!
Bitcoin is the ultimate ego test.
You will get exactly as much Bitcoin as you deserve until you can get out of your ego's way of thinking and doing things. :)
Anybody else having a hard time getting away from #bitcoin these days? It's like all I want to do. I am now on rabbit with 8 tabs of streams running... I watch Simply Bitcoin every single damn day. I'm on reddit at least once a day looking at r/bitcoin. I'm playing with my btc/lnd node all the time if I'm not doing one of the other things. IT'S. ALL. I. DO. I might need professional help. #ZapsForTherapy lololol
Appreciate anybody running a lightning node that opens up a channel to help grow the number of connections to the Lightning Network!

Primal wallet doesn’t zap.
Damus doesn’t post my notes.
I’m about fed up with my Nostr experience the first week or so. 😔
I want to love Nostr!!!!!!! 💔
It hasn’t worked for days. Oddly enough, I sent a zap to @TheGuySwann manually from the wallet, it sent… then I tried zapping posts, and as you can see, it’s working. Guess whatever has been broken for me for days now, got fixed with the wallet changes they made over #zapathon. Thanks guys, for breaking it so that my long-running problem got fixed as well. 😂 ❤️
In a room, dim and tight, dwelled a man with a digital light,
A single bitcoin, his treasure, his fight,
He watched the world, with keen delight,
As banks and bonds took their flight.
"Ah," he chuckled, with a spark in his eye,
"As empires crumble, and the old riches die,
My coin, my dear, stays aloft in the sky,
A digital phoenix, soaring high."
Once laughed at, scorned, a fool among men,
For shunning the gold, the stocks, the yen,
But he, in his corner, knew even then,
That the tides would turn—just didn't know when.
The banker elite, in their suits and their ties,
Once ruled the world, under moneyed skies,
But he, with his coin, saw through their lies,
A new order, he sensed, would rise.
He hoarded his bitcoin, not for greed or for show,
But for the promise of a world, free to grow,
Beyond the chains of gold, the financial woe,
A world where wealth wasn't the highest plateau.
And now, as chaos unfurled, and markets did quake,
The man with his bitcoin had reason to make,
A laugh that was hearty, genuine, no fake,
For he rode the wave, others struggled to take.
So here's to the man, with his digital shard,
Who saw beyond the present, gazed forward, hard,
In a world obsessed with the immediate reward,
He found his strength, his future, unmarred.
Let his laughter echo, through halls of power,
A testament to the changing hour,
Where not gold, nor silver, but information tower,
And a single bitcoin, can unleash a new power.
Just realized Damus hasn’t been posting my notes for days nor saving them to a drafts folder or anything. Going to have to try to log out and log in again.
Don’t type anything in there and just send some sats to your wallet via receive tab. It’s apparently not enforced. I just sent 50 sats to my second identity and it appears I can take them back out. Testing that theory now. Will report back.
Yup, Primal sucks ass. They just locked my 50 sats up where I can’t send or zap them unless I register and activate the wallet. What a bunch of horse shit. I get you can fake data it, but it’s still stupid. KYC is out of control. Why is there a database of Bitcoin owners?! Scary, indeed when 1000 BTC is worth a billion dollars. 😳
Could also be taken to mean a developer akin to land development.
He’s a digital land developer. :)
I agree with the last sentence. I’d rather hold my 🌽. Not your keys, not your coin!
Gradually, then suddenly.
Seems like we are getting closer and closer to suddenly. If we don’t see hyper Bitcoinization in the next two halvings, I’ll be surprised. #ToxicBitcoinMaxiTalk
