i always find it interesting when he talks about the origins of Amazon because one of his mantras for founders is ‘don’t chase the hot thing’ but that’s what it sounds like he’s doing here.
you can do both quite easily. i think being edgy/cynical (with truth) can be quite valuable to ppl even if it doesn’t feel nice.
it is one of the easiest ways to seek criticism, which is important. i would much rather an intelligent person be (what i perceive as) an unprovoked asshole to me and very directly point out fundamental flaws in my thinking, than not. i can also have an ardent belief in myself or my priors and ignore it.
i believe incessant niceness and avoiding offending ppl is too common atm, which sends lots of ppl down fruitless paths.
avi is a grifter imo. he got famous from a covid tracking website in 2020- it was popular because of this mapping feature that was taken from volunteer researchers without credit.
he rode that wave to make a name for himself, and rolled that into raising for a hardware ai start-up which again imo is copying https://github.com/BasedHardware my bet is that it turns out as badly as the other AI wearables and then he moves onto the next thing.
