@5ae91072@a7528bff What a pleasant base weight! I’m sure it still doesn’t feel like a burden. With our age comes the wisdom of judgement of which luxuries are worth the effort. I have a long hike planned for next year where I will go pretty minimalist, but I can imagine shorter hikes with lots of camp lounging time that would benefit from a couple niceties. 😊
@86075135 That’s a great resource! Luckily I don’t have to replace stuff too often, but I appreciate the extra helpful websites when I need to do a little research. I also like listening to the Backpacking Light podcast. Good info on that website as well.
@de29f8a7 Thanks! Yeah I’m rather proud of the accomplishment over the years. One of the major shifts was thinking I needed multiple “outfits” in the wilderness. That was probably the dumbest thing - thinking I needed different clothes for each day. Not a fashion show! I smell; deal with it. 😂
I agree it’s not necessary to buy all new to drop weight. Just figuring out what isn’t required will lighten the load.
@a7528bff I’ve seen different definitions of “ultralight” so I’m not officially labeling myself either. My goal is to have a base weight that is 10% or less of body weight. I see people struggling with huge packs and I’m just glad that’s not me anymore. 😁
Onward and upward 👍🏻
Any other ultralight/lightweight backpackers here? This is my frameless pack that weighs 19oz. I’ve been backpacking for over 30 years, and I started with all borrowed gear, all made for men (not me or my size). I don’t even know what my ridiculous pack weight was other than barely liftable. Now it’s 14lbs base weight.
I’ve reduced weight over the years by replacing each broken or worn-out item with a lighter option.

@b193df49 Oh yikes that would be frustrating. I almost never have in-person sales since I try to run everything through my website, but I use Square as a first choice and Paypal as a backup. Cash is fine, but it’s actually a hassle to deposit it to my business account. Venmo and Zelle seemed too sketchy last time I looked at using those. I’m pro cash but never actually have any 😆
@a3e2a07b Yes! I have a photo album with prints from my 1991 spring break road trip. Had to do some panoramas of the Grand Canyon like this. I overlapped them and used those corner holders to keep the prints in place on the page. Works great!
