I met a woman in a writing group a few years back, who told me about her ex-girlfriend. She'd started off on testosterone, then had a double mastectomy and eventually had a phalloplasty. She said her entire personality changed from being a lovely gender non-conforming woman to an angry and aggressive misogynist. They'd originally stayed friends, but she'd had to distance herself due to her behaviour. She was really sad when she was telling me about it.
The infantilisation of teens/adults is a huge problem. I never thought I'd say this, but despite childhood back in the day being brutal in some respects, it's made me a lot tougher and helped me deal with some serious shite. They aren't being given the tools to deal with reality.
