@98df22cd Why are you paying for the files? The National Archives has a digitization project in their Innovation Hub. Take a fraction of that $ and spend 3 days at the Archives and digitize the records. I've been working on the 27th, 28th , 4th heavy Artillery and 5th Heavy artillery Are you paying Fold3 for access?
@8d1af2ae: Thanks for reaching out. I'm aware of the National Archives' project and have had Fold3 access for 10+ years. I made the decision to purchase the records myself for reasons of time, distance and the ability to easily share free, digitized versions of the files with the researchers and educators who are using the free content I'm creating for their classrooms. I've also been donating copies to descendants of the soldiers, archives in the communities where the soldiers were born, etc.
@98df22cd I see. Good luck with your project. I don't think people should pay Fold3 but I get that not everyone can make it to DC to scan.
@8d1af2ae: Thank you. Just to clear up what seems to be continuing misunderstanding on your part, though, (your two posts seem to imply that I'm not aware of the Innovation Hub), I actually am. My research project has been operating for more than a decade. During that time, I've developed working relationships with multiple archivists and fellow academics, including at the National Archives and at local and state archives, historical societies, libraries, and universities nationwide.
@98df22cd I'm not misunderstanding. I'm happy for your project as I am for all projects that help digitize USCT and other Black folks records.
