TL;DR Examining energy use data in real UK homes shows that people in the least-efficient homes use 51% less than models expected and people in the most-efficient homes use 54% more. https://ars.els-cdn.com/content/image/1-s2.0-S0378778823002542-ga1.jpg https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378778823002542

That tracks. You've got a dad that has to pay the bills in a less than great house, he's gonna tell everyone to shut the lights off and GTFO of the shower. Same thing with idiot SUV drivers thinking they are safe and end up in more accidents because they have a false sense of security.
And maybe heavier consumers care more about buying efficient products.
That's another good point.
The question is, do bad drivers like SUV s more? I think yes cause SUVs are stupid.
All the soccer moms driving around Denalis... Yeah. Lol
Always hilarious, when I see these tiny women driving around in these enormous €50k tanks, without anyone else in the car. Just to travel 500m to the bakery, in a village where there is no crime and so little traffic that we have geese and chickens wandering around on the street. I always think: They do this instead of buying Bitcoin. 🤷♀️
Choices abound, creatures of habit!
Or gold or silver or starting a revolution and living free... But, yeah, not everyone is an anarchistic, sarcastic American. Lol
Yeah. 😂 I could subsist for years, on the money they spent on their cars. And stack my sats, on the side, while eating steak.
Some value the opinions of others now over the future of their grandchildren.
Another thought: Behavior trumps virtue signaling. If you choose to be efficient, you will, even in less than ideal circumstances. This calls to mind the video from the old Top Gear where Clarkson drove the piss out of a Prius and then dawdle around the track at the same average speed in a BMW. Beating on the Prius yielded a worse average fuel consumption than just driving well under the performance envelope of the BMW. I find myself doing these calculation often in my own living situation, especially since I want to be able to sustain living off-grid for a while.
And we can't forget that the more-efficient homes have spent energy in the renovations and building materials. And they tend to be larger, overall. I know people moving out of 150 m² homes into custom-built 350 m² and bragging about the energy efficiency. 😂 Remember Al Gore, with his environmentally-friendly mega mansion?
