 @53de482a Depends on their role in politics. Why shouldn't people dying of old age have representation in our representative democracy? But just like we expect people to retire from an active role in society, they probably should do the same in politics.

While I wouldn't want to deny anyone their due representation, I have to agree. Broadly. It's not an ageism thing, either. I'm staring down 40 (a death warrant for a single gay man) but I don't vote for my interests. I vote in the interest of my neighbor's ten-year-old kid. She's the one who inherits this shitheap. I think we have a moral responsibility, especially if we're in a position of power, to say "I've got no skin in this game anymore." 
 @2b81357c The very best use of power is knowing who and when to pass it off to. If you cannot be trusted with that, I cannot trust you with anything. 
 @53de482a @2b81357c One serious great failing of the modern US Congress is the the omission of career politicians in choosing and mentoring successors. This once was a tradition, and  it should be again to keep our government connected to the people it purports to represent.
