 @6a018a2a our TV is really old now. Its a plasma flat screen. No mic, no camera. Not connected to internet. We have a plug in device that we only plug in when streaming. I recently paid almost as much for parts as a new TV would cost so my son could fix it. I try very hard to keep devices that can spy on me, out of my house. It boggles my mind that people actually buy devices like Amazon Echo and put them in their homes.

We gave up our Plasma due to heat and electric usage. We purchased a Flatscreen, no camera's or mic's. It is getting harder to find dumb TV's!

@6a018a2a
 @bbe973e1 @6a018a2a they are more expensive to operate. But I like the wide viewing angle and think it looks better than led tvs
 @48bfa577 @bbe973e1

I agree, and old plasma's from 20 years are tuneable and Videophiles always look for them because of the picture..
 @6a018a2a

We donated ours and it was still working fine.

They do probably use a little more energy, but we are talking pennies... and they literally last forever, unlike all this new crap...
 @6a018a2a

I fought to keep it for years, I finally caved. We had it for 20 years and when I purchased it I saved $2500.00! It was 5k.

 @bbe973e1 @6a018a2a the repair ours needed was a result of a lightening strike. It fried the power supply and took out the hdmi board. This in spite of house wide surge protection
 @48bfa577

I get that, the last strike came through the Ethernet and fried a lot of electronics, so we added more surge protector's to the products that use Ethernet. No issue since, seems ridiculous to have to add those when you have whole house -- yet you should.

 @6a018a2a
 @bbe973e1 @6a018a2a we have secondary surge protection on our TV and sound system now. But not anything else, including the cheap and replaceable TV and sound bar in the bedroom.
 @bbe973e1 @48bfa577

Surge protection is only as good as the household wiring and overall Grounding... otherwise , most of the time the stuff is useless unless you have really good expensive surge protectors...
 @6a018a2a @bbe973e1 our house had all brand new wiring throughout and it was well grounded. Nonetheless the strike overwhelmed the ground and traveled 150 feet past the house and 380 feet down to the well pump. It Ultimately depends on how many joules you get blasted with.
 @6a018a2a

Agreed! The dh wired our house and having the surge come in over the Ethernet was a surprise. We had our PC's on the correct surge protector, just had to add more! We have a home protector and the cable had one outside of the house...🤷‍♀️

@48bfa577
 @bbe973e1 @48bfa577

Cable, Fiber, Twisted pair copper all needs their own Surge protectors. I Remember the old (still used everywhere Copper lines) always had Carbon Bullet surge protectors outside the house usually, sometimes inside,. Lightening has nothign it does not like...
 @bbe973e1 @6a018a2a it also fried our well pump, and half out ceiling fans. It was quite pleasant.
 @48bfa577

I am so sorry Phil, that sucks!
A tall pine was hit and this past spring it had to go, a sad day.

I have had good luck with this.

Eaton CHSPT2SURGE SPD Type 2 Chsp Whole Home Surge Protector, Nema 4, Single Phase, 120/240 Volts, Ul 1449 3Rd Edition https://a.co/d/361dleQ
 @602e6fbe @bbe973e1 @6a018a2a this is what we had. It saved us once but it seems that nothing can stop a direct strike to the power line leading into your house. Everything had to be replaced from the pole on.
 @6a018a2a @48bfa577 @bbe973e1

I have a 59" plasma, it can heat the living room.
 @602e6fbe @6a018a2a @bbe973e1 they do put out significant heat, but this is easily over come by setting the central air on 65 and handing your wife a blanket

If "They" are listening to me from anything, I suspect that "They are bored to death."
 @98513a7f

I keep my cell turned off when home and have discovered it was on...😡

Most of what "They" would (or do) hear from any electronics of mine is "Crackers!" "Chocolate cereal?" from Nathan, and "No cereal after breakfast!" and "Shut the door, please." from me. Punctuated with the occasional "Shut up in the Name of Jesus, you liar!" from me to the TV. Sometimes an interesting discussion of Biblical truth between me and Paul. Or, Nicole discussing bills or dinner plans. I hope "They" fall asleep.
 @48bfa577

Me too on a Plasma...
