So people want censorship here? 🤔
What did i miss?
It seems a certain user quit nostr. People seem to be suggesting certain words should not be allowed to be posted or shouldnt be posted to not offend this user. Some suggest to mute someone if we dont like them, which makes sense. Its weird seeing old nostr users call for censorship instead of muting someone.
Very weird indeed. I tell people i am muting them. Mostly for being sheep or shills
Name names or it didn’t happen.
Thats not true lol. Isnt it obvious who though? Lots of talk on nostr this morning about this.
To me, Nostr has always been about censorship resistance THROUGH optionality and robust user control That means users should be able to choose their clients, relays, and feed mechanics There is a user control problem here if people are deleting their accounts because they feel harassed
Right. We have control over the censorship through muting and relay selection. We are our own censors. Cool!
Yes, it’s very cool! However, I think we need more market solutions to this problem as well. This network was always going to bifurcate into loosely connected forks, and it seems like there are a lot of people who are demanding cleaner feeds with less incel shit. Someone should spin up a “heavy censorship” relay and allow it to compete with other relays.
I agree. I would love a "clean relay". I avoid global because I dont trust its not filled with disgusting garbage.
Roya quit The Nostr.
I hope this is just an April Fools...
Wasnt it yesterday though?
It was. I had hoped it was a bad joke, but today is April Fools. What stings is if someone like her, who hung with us for so long,?decides to punt, then it’s prolly gonna be hard for newer users to stick it out. But, your point is taken, it’s past, and we need to move forward cheerfully or else sad sack juju will run everyone else off.
What was even the issue said to make her leave? I think she can just sign in again and it will undelete her account.
It’s alright I quit #nostr for about 6 months, came back in and happy. People come and go. It is social media after all.
Some people want to not see things they consider gross/offensive/degenerate/disturbing. That's well within their rights. No one is suggesting censoring everything for everyone, though. Well, if they are, that's just dumb.
