Mostly it was just a matter of remembering what went under what, and trying to achieve that look with my carving. And scaling the image so that the curves matched gouges that I had around so I wasn’t forced to freehand the curves.

I’ll have a writeup once the bench is done, but this was about three mornings (2-4 hours each) of work total.

 @bc1a1c09 You’re welcome! Here are some progress images from along the way. 1: lowering the background; 2: beginning to separate the rings; and 3: the rings, separated, but not cleaned up

The hardest part was keeping the rings straight so I knew which parts go over which other parts as I was carving.
