@2a70c54d just watched a documentary on Carthage's history as a trading empire for centuries while Rome was still mud and brick, and how over centuries Rome wrested those trade routes away. Then the propaganda.I already knew the senatorial class of Roman antiquity were ruthless in their greed, but it was shocking nonetheless.
@3e232a02 Doing a little independent study presently, and I was shocked to learn of Carthage's penetration into ancient Spain. I knew about the Moors of course, but I had no idea ancient Africans founded cities on the peninsula.
@2a70c54d Cartagena!
@2a70c54d and the food-basket islands of Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, which were the first outposts taken as spoils of war by Rome.
@3e232a02 also interesting how much of Roman culture was appropriated from people that they defeated in battle. Or just admired, like the Greeks.
