 @3e232a02 Doing a little independent study presently, and I was shocked to learn of Carthage's penetration into ancient Spain. I knew about the Moors of course, but I had no idea ancient Africans founded cities on the peninsula.

 @2a70c54d and the food-basket islands of Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, which were the first outposts taken as spoils of war by Rome. 
 @3e232a02 also interesting how much of Roman culture was appropriated from people that they defeated in battle. Or just admired, like the Greeks.
