 #Tao Te Ching: Chapter 17

When the Master governs, the people
are hardly aware that he exists.
Next best is a leader who is loved.
Next, one who is feared.
The worst is one who is despised.

If you don't trust the people,
you make them untrustworthy.

The Master doesn't talk, he acts.
When his work is done,
the people say, "Amazing: we did it, all by ourselves!"
 Maybe is not that you don’t trust people but that you dislike people.
 the invisible hand
 i like a Ursula LeGuin's translation too:

## ACTING SIMPLY

True leaders
are hardly known to their followers.
Next after them are the leaders
the people know and admire;
after them, those they fear;
after them, those they despise.

To give no trust
is to get no trust.

When the work’s done right,
with no fuss or boasting,
ordinary people say,
Oh, we did it.
 Sure, now it all makes sense.

 Nice 😊
 Is there one western leader that isn't despised by his own?
Bukele doesn't count
 I am lovable AF
 Doesn't make sense to me. If the people forget the Master exists, how will they be able to manage when the Master is absent? The people should be more aware of how they are best governed.
 Love that last line 👍
 This is great. Need more!!
 Thank you. I post chapters from the Tao every day. Tap #Tao and you will find them :)
 Followed the hash tag. Will be tuning in. A fan of Tao and a daily dose is good for the mind body and soul
