Communication is a skill that requires tact and diplomacy. It is unwise to announce that a certain service or app will be discontinued with community support or donations, without consulting or soliciting feedback from the users; it could come across as coercive. This poor communication strategy could alienate the original creators from their audience and the vice versa is valid. The best approach is to trust the community, listen to their needs, initiate a dialogue about monetization, and seek their input. If your community trusts you, you can reach a reasonable solution.

I agree,Iโm taking learnings from this as well, but also, weโre all humans and nobody has it all figured out, happy new year ๐ซ
"It is unwise ..." @Kemal feeling entitled to someone's else's work to the point he has to resort to veiled threats.
After decades of trying to fund Open Source projects in variois ways the wikipedia style "guilt-trip" has a historic precendent. Among unfaliated strangers It's how Basillica's, Crusades, wars...have been funded, for example. Another is advertising, Facebook style.
You mean if someone isn't getting enough money to cover FOSS development he shouldn't abandon it? Or something else? It's hard to understand what you mean, maybe give a specific example?
I say the developer or the development team must be in direct and open contact with the community to discuss about the possible future developments whether in positive or negative way (open source ecosystem). This relation between two bodies will define the app's/software's timeline. If someone pressures the community in an obscure way about the financial health it might cause a very stromg backlash ruining everyrhing.
Those threats keep coming. "The developer must" ... "backlash".
i'm concerned. What's the "backlash". In the absence of any more specific elaboration one would have to assume the worst. Like gangs of goons being deployed to the developer's premises.
It doesn't say explicitly who/what this is about but I assume @jb55 and Damus and I just hope that @jb55 has adequate security at his premises.
Do we need to report @Kemal to the authorities at this point.
Im just surprised this upset so many people. I guess I could have just not said anything and just let everyone know at the point i had no money left? I think that would have been worse.
I hope it's all benign. Hafta think of Atlas Shrugged.
And no Iโm not good at โPRโ or communication, I am just being open and honest about what Iโm thinking at any given time. If people donโt like that then so be it.
I know youโve got young family but have you considered moving out of Castreauโs Socialist Utopia to a country where your money would go a lot further?
