It's so good. Had it frequently growing up, ours was usually boiled and sliced new potatoes in the skillet with the kraut, but we had it with mashed, too.

I'm mostly ambivalent about onions. It might be the fact that I don't think most people cook them well. They are, in fact, better when cooked in butter or bacon grease, but, that's not really common these days.
And is there different ways to make it?
I sure wouldn't know.
