What's the easiest way to explain what nostr is to someone? #asknostr
Freedom to read, fredom to write... and zaps 💜
A self sovereign, consorship resistant social media protocol. Memes, code, bitcoin and shit posting.
p2p social media. "think of napster but for posts instead of songs"
Nostr is a social media protocol without algo. You can make 1 unique profil to access many clients and different apps. BTC Lightning is integrated ⚡️
To show them.
Fixing everything that sucks about the modern internet
If they are orange pilled - it is bitcoin is for money, but for free speech. Then you show them the tools that exist on it, from a UX perspective. Tell them they can run their own node or use other people's nodes. If they are not, it is a longer discussion, likely.
Social media without the algorithm. Where people like to actually engage and have a good time.
There IS an algorithm, but you're the one building it.
Twitter, but without a centralized server, run on multiple servers, uses BTC for supporting creators you like, but it's blockchain-based, meaning once you post something, it's there permanently.
Tell them it's very DIY & takes a bit of work, but the rewards might be worth it to them (if they value btc, non-invasive tech, ability to post longer content for free, and free speech)
a promising permissionless open-source protocol for a decentralized interconnected ecosystem of apps and solutions to substitute the oligopolistic rotten big-tech.
Like X but decentralized. A value for value social media network where you can keep your privacy and send Bitcoin crumbs to people that provide value content or content you like. May it be sophisticated or just entertainment.
It's not a regular social network, its a cool social network https://media.tenor.com/yAMh2WMrdu4AAAAC/im-not-like-a-regular-mom-im-a-cool-mom-mrs-george.gif
It will be what the internet was supposed to be before it was taken captive by the Big Tech. Right now it is free social media.
Nostr is freedom and other cool stuff
Unless they are an engineer, only talk about what it can do. Not how or why. e.g. no one can censor you, no ragebait, etc
It's Twitter almost 20 years ago. Free, open, fun. Don't mention the Bitcoin/Sats aspect out of the gate. Most people don't like that... Myself, personally, Nostr feels like the internet as it was back then - at least in theory.
