What’s kind of intriguing to me regarding #nostr is:

The default, or perhaps average, #zap I see most people throwing around is ~25 sats.

Which is about a one cent $USD.

Yet, how often do we step over a Penny (or even a Nickle or a Dime) waking down the street?!

Why 🤷‍♂️

Why…

1. Are we too lazy to bend over and pick up a Penny?

2. All while being too cheap to #zap more than a cent when we benefit from the value created by another?

For me, it's because the penny will be worth less by the time you pick it up, put it in your pocket and take it home, the sats are very likely to be worth more.
Isn’t a vertical crunch or squat worth more in life than even a sat 🤷‍♂️🤪

Jokes aside,

1. #thanks for engaging with my note

2. Are you saying you zap more or less because the sats are worth more?
I think the default in a few apps is 21sats…
Totally get that. (But it is adjustable 😇)

AND when I joined Nostr a month ago, I admit I was less than 25 sats.

Even now 25 sats tends to be my default for base level content.

I did however go in and adjust all my other zap defaults.

And I’m trying to be intentional with doing more than the minimum

I simply thought it interesting that most humans won’t pick up the lowest fraction of their fiat currency, but will

A. zap one other, and some
B. Rarely zap more than the minimum

I was just pondering the correlation
I also zap about 25 sats on average, but that's also because that's what I tend to receive mostly, so I imagine for me it has to do with price anchoring early on in my nostr journey.

As for zapping I try to pay my zaps forward and zap out anything I earn wasting time on zbd games during a day.

I do fight the urge to horde sats, though I know that if we want this to work we have to spread the love.
What are zbd games? Have you got any examples?
It's so easy to Zap, and people really appreciate receiving them almost as much as people enjoy zapping them.
Especially for the everyday person broadcasting a message for all to enjoy. They are not trying to keep food on the table with their content, but with Zaps, they definitely feel the love and are more willing to spread it, because even though it may average out to only 1 penny, It feels like more and it feels genuine.
I would agree that due to the affinity, #zaps are way better.

My question and I suppose challenge to all of us is:

At what point are we ok with giving away (for value created) one cent

but we aren’t willing to bend over and pick up one cent (that then could further be converted to sats and placed into the bitcoin economy)?

It seems to me there is a potential misalignment with our espoused values vs behavior.

🤷‍♂️
Every Sat matters. That is interesting to think about. How amazing is Bitcoin, that it gets people to pick up pennies on the sidewalk. I have to admit, I have not thought of sidewalk pennies as SATs, but I am still in the process of deconstructing my wasteful Fiat mindset. Thank you for this thought nugget.
 You are welcome.
Hopefully it can help us all.

It wasn’t directed at you specifically 😀

Even though I don’t love fiat, most USD coins have “In God We Trust” stamped on them.

Whenever I’d see a coin on the ground I’d pick up my “In God We Trust” token as a reminder of how much He cares for us
