that’s just it, people are genuinely addicted to other apps. it’s hard to change consumer behavior in general, borderline impossible when addiction is involved. what keeps me coming back? my friends are here. it’s not for news or discovering recipes (yet). it’s the people. how do we attract groups of people and other online communities? that I don’t know, because unfortunately censorship resistance is not compelling enough on its own. but one day it will be… nostr:note1w3fr88ry6m0n00rs7hvpx87mmuxvuww2680wzlgq79s8l05q5alsy64trg

We do need to recreate the concept of “communities” on the protocol level, I think. My nostr experience currently is not unlike participating in a single awesome subreddit I think we are missing the point arguing about whether individuals (nostr) or algorithms (everything else) should construct their filters - the third options is “communities” which are filters created organically and publicly by multiple individuals cooperating together, no algorithm needed
seriously loving the nostr experience.
This is why Im focused on tools that let people communicate in different ways, and try to #grownostr by getting people together and creating more and supporting those doing likewise Corny Chat for audio spaces. Community Zapper rewarding community group participation. Weekly shows to recap and summarize news and sports with New1, Frank, Coffee and others. Participating in the weekly book reading in Companions Corner, La Casina, and enjoying the creations of Kajoozie for the AI Prompt callin show shown on Zap Stream. The cool InkblotArt by Rex also gets the imagination flowing. Im addicted to this environment and will keep building and using tools and apps of Nostr. Weve got Puff Puff Paint with Puzzles and The Noshole coming up later this month. To me its not just consumption via kind 1 centric social clients. People can easily get 10x that experience of nostr in places like FB or X. Its the other stuff and integration of data through nostr across apps that will eventually provide an aha moment.

it's so addicting that you have to compete with the swipe/tap every 1-2 seconds to the point where people won't visit profiles to click links & learn more about people' offerings. However, it's also like a video game, and like many great games before, their wave will conclude. Peer-to-peer stuff is a compelling meta that was lost before it ever got started back in the early internet. Even Zuckerberg see's this coming.
Censored people disappear by design. It's not nearly bad enough for people to leave. I'm sure I could stuff a 1984 quote here somewhere but I will show some restraint. If the average person gets censored, who would know. And masses are likely sheepish enough not to get the boot. It's just not an every man's problem. I also think many people are dropping the idea of the "social" part of social media. Everyone I know pretty much uses tiktok or instagram reels daily. Its one way. There is no more regular two-way communication. You are either a consumer or a producer, its extremely unequal now. That's just the norm. In my local circles there is no need to have communities on the internet anymore. Im here because it's open, and I don't need permission from anyone to build software on nostr. I get to build/use my own software to sign MY events and no one owns them except me! Plus the people here are kinda cool too
I think nostr is the best option for content creators, artists , musicians etc bc they can be zapped directly . Probably devs can work next on whatever features full time creatives would find helpful to make nostr more efficient for them
Also the best option for content creators, artists , musicians etc bc their followers will see everything they’re posting because their posts aren’t controlled and manipulated by algorithms
Let's make Nostr the place where people come for open source AI news and information. #opensourceai #foss I'll start with this one article that I came across through The Rundown AI. https://m.primal.net/Hqwc.png Read it here https://www.therundown.ai/ or go directly to their github https://github.com/princeton-nlp/SWE-agent nostr:note1vurshjhwnruwrvr8cn84vy8uvgkkazlxdadtpgpsygm7jyrflluqk43aeq
The resistance to censorship doesn't really attract many people. I'd say the majority don't want a place with zero censorship. Let's be real, most people who are all about finding censorship-proof spaces are people who've been kicked off other platforms and come here to write their shitty posts that 99.99% of the population would be disgusted to read (white supremacists, racists, homophobic, misogynists, pedophiles, religious extremists..) And you know that's what's happening on Nostr there is freaks posting their dump theories about white superiority and I've even seen profiles of pedophiles who should be in jail not on social media. Sane people don't want to see all that. I would say no algorithms is way more interesting than no censorship. It's kinda depressing to log in and see grown adults super exicited just because they can drop the n-word or the r-word
How do we attract groups of people and other online communities? Simple: one person at time. How out “Hey <BirdAppFriend> meet me in NostrLand and I’ll zap you 1,000 Sats.” ? Love and sats to you all.
We have the best case scenario (and an urgent need) for freedom tech like Nostr in all countries subject to censorship. A person’s account can be blocked/warned by X, for example, just by posting a news article not fitting State’s narrative. I see many people complaining. That’s where we need to market (educate). And the population in those countries is HUGE. The snowball needs to roll. Nostr has to intervene to protect freedom of speech. Because, “NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INTERVENTION” “Necessity is the mother of intervention”. Keep building NUTS, crowd will follow
I dunno. I've been very bullish on the zaps function. I think that will have a retentive effect., eventually I stuck around for the Bitcoin atmosphere But I notice that posting, reposting, responding to people and multiple conversatiins on posts doesn't lead to increased networking or reciprocation I take that as a sign there just aren't enough people on the platform Getting zapped for just saying GOOD MORNING NOSTR is cute, but it's a sign the content value of the platform is in its infancy Sunstack belongs on NOSTR. I would have read so many more writers if it weren't for all the friction involved Instagram is so going to integrate the zap function
