“Show me the incentives and I’ll tell you the behaviour..” On X you get rewarded for engagement, so the behaviour is to post the most controversial, rage-baiting comments. (Couple I’ve seen recently attached.. no value added, just inflaming comments to goad people into replying) On Nostr, you get rewarded for thoughtful or helpful posts, so the behaviour is to go out of your way to help people; trolling and negativity is rarely zapped! It’s a self-regulating system like bitcoin.. It will take time, but I believe that in the end #value4value wins. https://m.primal.net/MfTO.jpg
I agree with you. What I’m asking is, how does nostr compete? Or can it not? Are the paradigms too different? $2400/month is not insignificant. Many of us here will spend hours a day at a job we can’t wait to leave just so we can pay our bills, and then we use nostr in our downtime. Is this any different?
Mmm.. I hear ya! It’s frustrating to watch others profit by selling out to the fiat advertisers. 😤 But “those that live by the algorithm will die by the algorithm.” It’s all gone if the algorithm changes, or they are deplatformed, or the advertisers dry up.. Stick to your PoW. 💪 in the end Bitcoin wins. Value 4 value wins. Nostr wins.
All in all I agree, and I’m excited about Nostr’s potential. It’s already blown me away. Value 4 value fits well with my personality and values, and I believe it results in more authentic experiences for everyone. I think of what you talked about as being similar to a job. Work policies (the algo) can change, or your boss can fire you (deplatformed). Always a risk of losing your income, no matter the source. My wife experienced that earlier this year when her company abruptly let her go and our family had to make some major adjustments during her transition to something else. For people who rely heavily on digital platforms for their income, I can understand their reluctance to make the shift to a new paradigm unless they absolutely have to.
