Someone just sent me this as a DM Beautiful! And true. The others will find their way ✌️ “I use Primal as a #bitcoin wallet for my 10-year-old son. He’s too young to sign up for Strike (or any KYC platform). He’s too young to open a bank account. He’s not interested in paper money. He wants digital money so he can buy game stuff online. I pay him his allowance in bitcoin to his Primal account. He doesn’t have to send me an invoice, I just zap him $50 or whatever. Then if he wants to spend on a game, he can request a purchase through the apple App Store, i get a notification first from apple, then i get a notification from Strike saying that he zapped me $5 to cover the cost of the purchase. It’s perfect for someone his age. I couldn’t do this with cash app, PayPal, a credit card, a bank account. NOSTR + Bitcoin is the future. Some of us are living here now. The others will find their way.”
Love this
great story
This is the way 🤜🏻🤛🏽
I wonder how will this work in the long term given that Primal Wallet asks for personal inforrmation and uses Strike under the hood. I'm not keen on custodial regulated wallets.
This is so awesome! I want to be a dad like this one day
Awesome
Would be wiser to send him On-Chain Bitcoins so he can learn about fees. Good primer to taxation in a way & low time preference.
I have some on-chain #bitcoin for him, but I have that in cold storage. This bitcoin is just for small transactions, so that’s why i leave it on Lightning.
Yesterday I talked with my 12yrs old. He is in his creator moment - drawing, making short videos, really feeling it. I told him about NOSTR and that I am becoming part of this community, and that he can use ZBD to make a lighting account, and then jump on NOSTR to share his content and even get some zaps. Hope that I can plant this seed early! 🌱 I perceive the ecosystem very young so if he and more of his friends are early adopters - in 5-10 years he will swim naturally in blockchain, decentralized networks and services. Amazing times!

The future is already here 💯
All this is nice. Wish this was being made out accessible globally. On boarding remains the biggest issue for much of the world. How do I get bitcoin so I can spend Bitcoin
every change starts with a niche - it must evolve slowly to improve for mass adoption
Slow in an ideal world that doesn’t need it. I’m pointing out the thing I feel needs more focus
That is great, but if I understand right they could have done this with any other custodial wallet like @Wallet of Satoshi or @Blink – The Everyday Bitcoin Wallet, right?
The identity layer of nostr makes all the difference. Many wallets don't support address books so you would be entering the recipient every time.
Hmm, some don’t. But botg WoS and Blink do. Don’t get me wrong. I love Nostr, I am just not sure this is a particularly unique use case.
Other apps might use your phone book entries but nostr is cryptographically secure. I bet that nostr will gain most of its growth from this social graph being leveraged by all kinds of apps.
Hey guys, what about motivational app for youngsters to do things, that has some parental control, and instead of money parents pay with zaps? ⚡️ Just wondering what would be the most suitable setup for this? I can code the app, but as a newbie in NOSTR ecosystem I am wondering is there a reliable / forever service that allows communication (SDK/Rest) for managing zaps. Any suggestions for this or advise who to ask for more info?
I'm confused. Did you want to say: "and instead of currency parents zap money"?
Hahaha, I see what you did here, but I must admit you're absolutely right! 😀 Still using some printed currency here and there and get confused. Do you think this idea makes sense though? If not - why? I know NOSTR is not exactly this type of ecosystem, but I want to teach my kids blockchain and have them adopt Bitcoin at early age. Thanks!
I'm not sure exactly what you want as an app. For my purposes, Phoenix is just fine but kids are a bit weird with Bitcoin. They beg for money and when I tell them they have enough BTC they tell me these are for a rainy day so they don't want to spend them and when I suggest to put all their allowance into BTC then, they say no, too.
Thanks for answering this. Phoenix looks like a good wallet. I am thinking of a simple app, where I can make tasks as a parent and my kids to be able to get a hold of it. A completion of the task results in some zaps to their individual lighting wallets. Furtherly these wallets can serve to authorize, socialize, share art and ideas and get zaps on Nostr network and hold their identities. I didnt start with a solid plan yet - just an idea, thinking out loud as I will need to figure out how to build this ‘kid friendly’ with the option to grow with them over the years. Might turn out impossible or dangerous… So far - I am reading through the NOSTR protocol and the Lightning Network documentation to familiarize with the capabilities and limitations of the technology and how can I use them effectively for messaging/payment use cases. Definitely not looking to make the next Primal though :) I can sense as a dev that there is a very wide application - local communities, marketplaces, non-profit, journalism… Sorry if I sound too lame, still a week fresh in NOSTR - otherwise have some experience building on Stacks and then I came across this great protocol.
Sadly zaps are not private. They spoil all the privacy that normal LN payments have by publishing nostr identities of sender and receiver. That's ok for getting recognition for you zapping or getting zapped a post but for allowance I would suggest to use Phoenix or at least not zaps.
Private zaps are!
How do private zaps work?
They are kind of like giftwraps before giftwraps became a thing. When you zap someone you encrypt the zap request note to the person you are zapping. Only the person who receives the zap can see who sent it. Not even the lightning node / service can see who sent it. It’s all end to end encrypted.
And they work at least on Damus and Amethyst 🤙
Interesting thanks 👍
But the recipient still is publicly marked as having received BTC, right? It's just not necessary to zap for allowance and many other types of payment. And a completely private zap would maybe be good as a payment receipt but then it wouldn't be a zap, would it?
how do you pay apple app store with bitcoin?
