I onboarded my dad using Primal without knowing it did this, and I think he fell into this situation of being overwhelmed by stuff from people he didn’t actually choose. I think it may be one of the reasons I don’t see him posting anymore. 

Following topics until you discover accounts you actually like is a far better way. 
Following as many people as possible or whatever’s trending only works if you’re similar to the average of all Nostr users. As folks who know what it’s like to not be mainstream, we shouldn’t assume everyone in our corner fits in with our “mainstream,” either. nostr:note1aqxgsly4nwwtnfcfg8cuczg6amjawmz7hqz3qd6uazt95gy8lh5qjutpez 

 It’s especially bad with primal cause they default new accounts to follow over a 100 people 

 Yeah, I had no idea, or I would have done things differently. 

 Agreed, we need much better discovery tools to find good accounts to follow.
