Debian has an AppStore and it's not a problem. They manage quality and security just fine. It's the locked monopoly choke point AppStore that's bad.  

 You mean flatpak/flathub or is there a debian specific appstore? 

 Apt is the original big AppStore. It’s all free and open source but it functions with updates, builds, support, quality controls, security, etc…
