Bravery is a parsimonious explanation for everything that you say "doesn't make sense" about this. People often take risks in the face of their own fear response, especially when they think it's important and they feel like others are depending on them. 

 I’d believe that trump actually cared about the people depending on him if he wasn’t a lying snake politician 😂 

 I think he believes people depend on him, and he has a big ego about it. Liars don't typically lie about literally everything.  

 Valid opinion but I don’t think politicians are actually altruistic. His track record is pretty bad.
