Dear #gunstr frens #pewpew amigos, help me out. I am looking to acquire a new shotgun, this time not a break action, which are beautiful and great for clay, but something that can be relied on for WSHTF. I can't resist the appeal of the Mossberg 590 (with wood furniture, I can't stand plastic), but I keep hearing that nowadays semis (namely the Mossberg 940 Tactical and the Beretta A300 Patrol) are as reliable as a pump, with none of the disadvantages (basically the expected easier recoil). The struggle is real and I have to make a decision.
(Note: I will end up buying both a pump and a semi, anyway. I know myself).
This is the way
+1 Following this as I too am in the market
You know you want to pump it! Just pump it!! The iconic sound is worth any downsides … but yea, both is a great choice too!
I chose a 590. 8+1. (or 7. I forget. I should know... 😅) Neither of those semis you listed would I consider reliable enough to cycle the very wide variety of defensive loads. They can. It's just that you need to do more than pump and load. If you choose a pump, you must learn how to run it. It's not easy. You must be forceful and consistent and that combo is not easy to acquire. Semis require more work behind the scenes to make them run as reliably as necessary.
Alright, solid advice!
(But who said anything about "defensive" loads...) https://image.nostr.build/ee631640f9a136a5c637a7a9333b2d7823aa4a5467a0c48a336d51541e597ecd.gif
I just got myself a keltec KSG410. Holds 14 rounds using 2 1/2 in shells. It’s very maneuverable and only 26” in long. With slugs or 00buck, this is perfect for home defense or handling multiple threats
Oh yeah, I saw a review a while ago. Spicy and definitely to be considered, but I have to admit I'm not keen on Turkish manufactures. As I implied with the comment about wooden furniture, I value finishes and looks.
Check it out, apparently over here I'd only be able to load 6+6 because of taller shells (and I just looked it up in a local gun store and yes, they say it's 6+6+1). Not that 12+1 is bad at all anyway xD https://youtu.be/mvaNDtdDSG8
All I dream about is a Benelli M4. But it’s way out of my budget so my Remington 870 with the substandard finish Remington is turning out these days will have to do. The thing rusts if you even look at it.
That's why they offer it in with a "marine" finish as well. (Nickel coating, of i remember right)
Yes it’s funny I bought it first with this nice looking hammered finish powdercoat and within a week it was peeling. So I got the black one and it rusts very easily. Apparently it’s a known issue with Remington the last few years.
The M4 was my idea of a shotgun when I first decided to start collecting shotguns, and it's absolutely being acquired -- eventually. As you said though, I'm looking into a lower budget range for now. For the record, over here an M4 runs for 2,500 eurobucks. And the models I mentioned I'm looking at are 1,200-1,500 depending on specs. So, yeah.
If you buy a Benelli M4, you will be very satisfied, and you will rain down great clouds of 00 buck on all that displeases you.
I would absolutely spend 2.5k on an M4 to blast the baddies with rock salt loads. https://youtu.be/5BY_sD3MvTY
