Neither of those semis you listed would I consider reliable enough to cycle the very wide variety of defensive loads. They can. It's just that you need to do more than pump and load. 

If you choose a pump, you must learn how to run it. It's not easy. You must be forceful and consistent and that combo is not easy to acquire. Semis require more work behind the scenes to make them run as reliably as necessary.
